The 36-year-old designer upended the fashion industry\u2019s penchant for exclusivity capturing a community that sells out his signature elegant totes in seconds.<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.complex.com\/style\/guess-tote-telfar-shopping-bag-similarities-reactions\/?utm_campaign=complexmag&amp;utm_source=twitter.com&amp;utm_medium=social\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In a statement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> provided to Complex, a rep for Guess\u2019 licensee said: \u201cSignal Brands, the handbag licensee of Guess, Inc., has voluntarily halted the sale of its G-Logo totes. Radboy told <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/03\/29\/style\/guess-telfar-bag.html?auth=login-google\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the Times<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> he and Clemens \u201cweren\u2019t afraid of it \u2014 and we didn\u2019t want to draw attention to it.\u201d \u201cGuess had, he said, missed the whole point of the bag, which was not \u2018about an object, but about the culture of the bag, the story around the bag and the phenomenon of the bag,\u2019\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/03\/29\/style\/guess-telfar-bag.html?auth=login-google\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">according to<\/a><\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> the Times.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Telfar, the \u201cBlack-owned, non-gendered fashion project\u201d established in 2004 in New York, has been putting on experiential shows since designer, Telfar Clemens, launched the brand at 20. Since then, Clemens has proven himself to be someone who can straddle art, fashion, and business with grace and apparent ease. He introduced his <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/preorder-ugg-telfar-shopping-bag\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">now iconic shopping bags<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in 2014 but they have recently taken off as a fashion symbol. In New York, they are called the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecut.com\/2020\/01\/how-telfars-shopping-bag-became-the-bushwick-birkin.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2018Bushwick Birkin.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2019 Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez wore her burgundy medium size tote to the Capitol over the summer.
