LOS ANGELES: The 2020 Oscar nominations have been heavily criticized for lack of diversity and affinity toward male directors. And Natalie Portman \u2013 the actor who famously used her presenting soapbox to take aim at the Hollywood Foreign Press at the 2018 Golden Globes \u2013 is having none of it.<\/p>\n

\u201cHere are the all-male nominees,\u201d said Portman, smugly, two years ago as she announced the Best Director nominees.<\/p>\n

Flash forward to last month when the Academy announced the Oscar nominees for the Best Director Category: Martin Scorsese (The Irishman<\/em>), Quentin Tarantino (Once Upon A Time In Hollywood)<\/em>, Bong Joon-ho (Parasite),<\/em> Sam Mendes (1917<\/em>) and Todd Phillips, (Joker<\/em>).<\/em><\/p>\n

In response, Portman made one hell of a statement today as she arrived at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. She asked Dior to stitch the names of women who directed movies last year \u2013 and weren\u2019t nominated for the 92nd<\/sup> Academy Awards \u2013 into her cape. Those women included: Lorene Scafaria (Hustlers<\/em>), Lulu Wang (The Farewell<\/em>), Greta Gerwig (Little Women<\/em>), Marielle Heller (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood<\/em>), Melina Matsoukas (Queen & Slim<\/em>) Alma Har\u2019el (Honey Boy<\/em>), C\u00e9line Sciamma (Portrait of a Lady on Fire<\/em>) and Mati Diop (Atlantics).<\/em><\/p>\n

In the history of the Oscars, only five women have been nominated for Best Director, and only one \u2014 Kathryn Bigelow for The Hurt Locker <\/em>\u2014 has won.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to recognize the women who were not recognized for their incredible work this year in a subtle way,\u201d said a coy Portman to a reporter on the carpet. Take a look.<\/p>\n
