They say to start the way you mean to finish, but designers Laura Vassar and Kristopher Brock seemed to switch the phrase on its head at New York Fashion Week, using their finale look as a hint of what’s to come for Brock Collection.<\/p>\n

Those in attendance at the early afternoon show were treated to Brock Collection’s signature Victorian-inspired dresses, filled with ruffles, plaid and floral fabrics that would make Little Woman<\/em>‘s Beth and Amy March have perhaps their biggest sisterly screaming match to date. Inspiration was found in centuries-old oil paintings – where the faded flowers seen on floor-length dresses were found – as well as English gardens at midnight.<\/p>\n

But for every romantic look came a tailored one to match, something Vassar and Brock noted was a big focus for the Southern California brand moving forwards. Fitted blazers were worn ontop of midi-length dresses and even the most romantic of gowns were pulled in at the waist by thin belts and fitted trench coats.<\/p>\n

In fact, the show’s final look, which is said to be the collection’s champion piece, featured not one ruffle in sight. Rather, a belted tailored black tuxedo took its turn down the runway, a design that, though minimal, was incredibly memorable – Is this the future of the Brock Collection woman? If so, Jo March will swoon.<\/p>\n
