Piers Morgan, the controversial host of Good Morning Britain, <\/em>walked off the set of the popular live breakfast show today, one day after he made scathing comments on Meghan Markle’s suicidal ideation<\/a> and Prince Harry’s mental health struggles.<\/p>\n

Following Sunday’s tell-all interview between the royal couple and Oprah Winfrey<\/a>, Morgan told his listeners he thought the Duchess lied about being suicidal.<\/p>\n

\u201cWho did you go to? What did they say to you? I\u2019m sorry, I don\u2019t believe a word she said, Meghan Markle. I wouldn\u2019t believe it if she read me a weather report,” Morgan said on Monday.<\/a> “The fact that she\u2019s fired up this onslaught against our Royal family, I think, is contemptible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sky News<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>reports 41,000 viewers complained to the show’s network, ITV, prompting Morgan’s resignation. The UK’s communications regulator, Ofcom, is now launching an investigation.<\/p>\n

The following morning, Good Morning Britain<\/em>‘s co-anchor Alex Beresford went on a two-minute rant criticizing Morgan for his comments.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hear Piers say that William has gone through the same thing, but do you know what? Siblings experience tragedy in their life, and one will be absolutely fine and brush it off and the other will not be able to deal with it so strongly,\u201d Beresford said. \u201cThat is clearly what has happened with Prince Harry in this situation. He walked behind his mother\u2019s coffin at a tender, tender age in front of the globe. That is going to shape a young boy for the rest of his life. So, I think that we need to all take a step back.\u201d<\/p>\n

“And I understand that you don\u2019t like Meghan Markle,\u201d Beresford continued. \u201cYou\u2019ve made it so clear a number of times on this program, a number of times. And I understand that you\u2019ve got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle \u2014 or had one \u2014 and she cut you off. She\u2019s entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don\u2019t think she has, but you continue to trash her.\u201d<\/p>\n

Morgan then dramatically threw his toys out of the stroller and stormed off, live on air.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is absolutely diabolical behavior,\u201d Beresford reacted. \u201cI\u2019m sorry, but Piers spouts off on a regular basis, and we all have to sit there and listen. Six-thirty to seven o\u2019clock yesterday was incredibly hard to watch.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 55-year-old has subsequently quit his job.<\/p>\n

\u201cFollowing discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain<\/em>,\u201d a statement released by the television station read. \u201cITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.\u201d<\/p>\n
