In a 10-minute video posted on his Instagram, Alec Baldwin<\/a> has explained his decision to quit Twitter. The actor deleted his account after coming under fire for making comments about Gillian Anderson<\/a>‘s American accent during her recent Golden Globes<\/a> award acceptance speech. Baldwin blamed his fellow countrymen for driving him away from the platform, calling Twitter a place for \u201call the a\u2013holes in the United States and beyond go to get their advanced degrees in a\u2013holiness.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can\u2019t do any irony in the United States anymore because the United States is such an uptight, stressed out place,” he said in the video, adding that his comments weren’t intended to be offensive to Anderson. \u201cWhen I made that comment about people switching cultures, if you will, it was in no way meant to be derogatory toward someone who I admire.”<\/p>\n
