After making his New York Fashion Week<\/a> debut last September \u2014 albeit virtually \u2014 Theophilio\u2019s Edvin Thompson<\/a> returns asking \u2018red or blue pill?\u2019 He used his time in quarantine<\/a> to reimagine what heroism looks like among such unrest<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI really do want to clothe people who are searching for their superhero,\u201d Thompson tells <\/span>Grazia USA<\/span><\/i> during a visit to Black in Fashion Council\u2019s NYFW showroom. \u201cIt builds on last season<\/a>. It\u2019s a continuation of migration. It\u2019s the same person ascending to a higher sense of self, the superhero in all of us.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Thompson\u00a0 \u2014 along with House of Aama<\/a>, Edas<\/a>, Marrisa Wilson<\/a>, Third Crown<\/a>, Beads Byaree<\/a>, Chelsea Paris<\/a>, Chuks Collins<\/a>, Kendra DuPlantier<\/a>, Whensmokeclears<\/a>, Michel Men<\/a>, Lola Ade<\/a>, Nicole Benefield, Nicole Shante<\/a>, Come Back as a Flower<\/a>, Label by Three<\/a>, and Local European<\/a> \u2014 is participating in Black in Fashion Council\u2019s<\/a> four-day, 16-designer showroom from February 14 to 17. He will release his lookbook and accompanying video on Wednesday, February 17.<\/span><\/p>\n

The designer was inspired by the 1999 movie, <\/span>The Matrix<\/span><\/i>, to create clothing for the superhero in all of us. \u201cThe possible thoughts of having to choose between the red pill and blue pill were paramount,\u201d the brand explained in a press release. \u201cA choice between revealing an unpleasant or otherwise life-changing truth, represented by the red pill, and remaining in blissful ignorance, represented by the blue pill.\u201d For Theophilo, the society we live in resembles \u2018The Matrix.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n

Titled \u201cSolace,\u201d Thompson\u2019s fall\/winter collection aims to give comfort and consolation. \u201cYou should look and feel good affirming the person you would like to become,\u201d Thompson said of the pieces. In a full-circle moment, Thompson partnered with Doc Marten for this collection, too. \u201cOver a decade ago, my first Doc Martens were the United Kingdom ones: black steel-toe boots with the United Kingdom flag on the toe, so I really wanted to give an homage with my own cultural flag.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cKnow that you can find the superhero in yourself,\u201d Thompson says of what he hopes fans of his work will take away from his latest collection.\u00a0 \u201cWe can be a trailblazer in anything we do, we have to persevere. This collection is a sign of growth coming from four months ago, streamlining that same
