For consoled afflictions only the <strong>ephemeral<\/strong> are to be held responsible, pleasures branded as <strong>vanity<\/strong> by those who are afraid to look at themselves in the <strong>mirror<\/strong>. Whoever does not read <strong>dresses poorly<\/strong>. <strong>Poetry<\/strong> is the unit of measure of <strong>emotional ignorance<\/strong>, it is the most sensorial form of perception there is, it is the word that is <strong>human flesh<\/strong> wearing its <strong>finest clothes<\/strong>. Those who read know it: it is <strong>the book that calls<\/strong>. Expectation is a futile effort, a gesture of shameless presumption in believing it mastery to always hit upon the right read, when in truth the book reveals itself as a <strong>creature of luxury<\/strong> and grants itself only to those who pay for it with the rare <strong>currency of understanding<\/strong>. Have you ever thought about it? <em><strong>Trama<\/strong><\/em> is the word that names the <strong>plot<\/strong> of a novel as much as the <strong>weave<\/strong> of a fabric. A dress is composed of <strong>cerebral matter<\/strong>, a synaptic dialogue of visions and antipodal chromatisms of <strong>rainbows<\/strong> that trade places to elude the spectrum and <strong>cheat death<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-117396\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2026\/10\/valentino-spring-summer-2027-short-story-review-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"4382\" height=\"6573\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-117397\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2026\/10\/valentino-spring-summer-2027-short-story-review-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2837\" height=\"4256\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The thread inlays itself in the unpredictability of an <strong>embroidery<\/strong> that could be a rose or a melancholy bellflower, perhaps a lily perhaps a primrose: in the end it is a <strong>mermaid&#8217;s tail<\/strong>. The <strong>feather<\/strong> is the relic of a <strong>fantastic zoology<\/strong>, in paradise fly birds that lay <strong>crystals<\/strong> upon the hems of sleeves that welcome them into their hollow, sheltered from <strong>bad taste<\/strong>. And we read, we read, we read, yet I wonder\u2026 <strong>How are they dressed<\/strong>, those who write, those who read, those who exist between the pages? I have a <strong>defect of form<\/strong>, I love <strong>beauty<\/strong>, and I seek it everywhere, in the <strong>carnelian<\/strong> hanging from a <strong>velvet ribbon<\/strong>, in the cross that is votive no longer because it desecrates itself in its sin of <strong>extreme vanity<\/strong>. But is it truly so? Is there perhaps bad faith in admiring the talents that an unspecified divinity has bestowed upon the <strong>writer<\/strong> and the <strong>designer<\/strong>? And absolutely, I will not wear dreadful bedroom slippers with curlicues of childish tenderness, I want <strong>satin<\/strong> and the <strong>feathered pouf<\/strong> at the toe, like a <strong>dandelion clock<\/strong> so generous that it scatters its splendor over soil it hopes will be fertile. And for heaven&#8217;s sake, do not ask me to lend you a book: <strong>it contains me<\/strong>, and I cannot part with myself. I can give it to you, if you wish. That way you will know <strong>how much I love you<\/strong>. What is life without <strong>love<\/strong>? I truly do not know, because I still remember so well those <strong>silk satin boots<\/strong> in an <strong>iridescent fuchsia<\/strong>, like an <strong>amethyst<\/strong> made up for a party, I yearn for them so deeply that I will run to them and take them home, I simply cannot live without them. And that sash in <strong>acid yellow<\/strong>, so perfect for my <strong>black dresses<\/strong>?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-117399\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2026\/10\/valentino-spring-summer-2027-short-story-review-11.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2837\" height=\"4256\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-117401\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2026\/10\/valentino-spring-summer-2027-short-story-review-9.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"3825\" height=\"5738\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-117402\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2026\/10\/valentino-spring-summer-2027-short-story-review-10.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"3636\" height=\"5454\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Do not get me started on those beloved <strong>glass pearl necklaces<\/strong> which, like the pages of my <strong>biography<\/strong>, string upon a single thread every surrender to my dear <strong>temptations<\/strong>. What do I love most? My dear, <strong>pink<\/strong>, of course. As a <strong>bride<\/strong> or as a <strong>corpse<\/strong>, I shall enter the church in my color, dear even to the hour of passing, for it glazes that hour with <strong>irony<\/strong> like a savory <strong>petit four<\/strong> that hides a <strong>candied petal<\/strong> at its heart.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-117403\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2026\/10\/valentino-spring-summer-2027-short-story-review-7.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"4615\" height=\"6923\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You already know whom I am speaking of, don&#8217;t you? Have you ever seen a <strong>train<\/strong> like that? The needless solemnity of those who glorify the <strong>practical<\/strong>. Come now, enough with thinking, have you perhaps forgotten that there are <strong>dreams<\/strong>? Do you truly believe they are useless? The <strong>fool<\/strong> is never the one who believes in them, but the one who mocks them. Ours would be an <strong>unadorned planet<\/strong>, if you were right about dreams. But then, you would read no more.
