If you’re dreaming of a beach holiday this summer, you’ve probably toyed around with the idea of going to the Maldives, Bora Bora, or perhaps, that one Greek cove you saw on TikTok at 2 a.m. But recent data released that the most beautiful beach in the world is in fact accessible after a quick layover in Miami.<\/p>\n

The new Beach.com Global Beach Index 2026<\/a> looked at hundreds of contenders and declared its winner: Trunk Bay, on the north shore of St. John in the US Virgin Islands. It is the sort of place that looks AI generated until you are ankle deep in white sand and turquoise waters.<\/p>\n

Why Trunk Bay Just Beat Every Other Beach On Earth<\/h2>\n

Beach.com started with 226 beaches nominated by 58 travel experts and local insiders, then layered on half a decade of NASA MODIS Aqua satellite data, European Union bathing water quality reports and roughly 93,000 Google Maps reviews. From that spreadsheet fever dream came a top 25 list spanning 14 countries and four continents, with Trunk Bay sitting at number one.<\/p>\n

What pushed it ahead of other world-famous beaches like Elafonissi Beach in Greece and Grace Bay Beach in Turks and Caicos was a rare clean sweep: natural beauty, water quality, climate, accessibility and reviews all scored sky high. Trunk Bay is a neat crescent of powder white sand, backed by jungle-green hills inside Virgin Islands National Park, with electric turquoise water that somehow looks filtered even in your bad vacation photos.<\/p>\n

What Makes This Beach Feel Almost Unreal<\/h2>\n

NASA satellite readings put Trunk Bay\u2019s water among the clearest and bluest in the entire index. The climate data gives you around 10 good beach months a year, with calm, warm water that feels more like a saltwater pool than open sea. No surprise the Google reviews read like love letters.<\/p>\n

Because Trunk Bay sits inside Virgin Islands National Park, it has very strict occupation rules. No condo towers on the sand. No line of jet skis revving beside your book. Just sea grapes and palms casting real shade. You pay a modest 5 dollar entrance fee if you are 16 or older, then get bathrooms, showers, lifeguards and chair and umbrella rentals in return. It feels curated but not performed, like nature with a soft glam filter.<\/p>\n

Swim just offshore and you hit Trunk Bay\u2019s signature: a roughly 225 yard marked snorkel trail that loops around tiny Trunk Cay. Underwater plaques introduce coral formations and the fish weaving through them, like a museum audio guide if you replaced the docent with a parrotfish. Confident swimmers can do the circuit in about half an hour, and there is a rental shack on the beach if you did not pack a mask between your heels and hair tools.<\/p>\n

How To Get To Trunk Bay<\/h2>\n

You will fly into Cyril E. King Airport (STT) on St. Thomas, which has direct service from several major US cities in high season. From there, grab a taxi to the Red Hook or Charlotte Amalie ferry terminal and board a passenger ferry to Cruz Bay on St. John. The ride runs about 20 to 45 minutes, depending on route, and counts as your first scenic cruise of the trip.<\/p>\n

Once you dock in Cruz Bay, Trunk Bay is an easy 10 to 12 minute taxi ride along North Shore Road. The drive winds past overlooks that will have you mentally revising your wedding venue. If you rent a car, remember the US Virgin Islands drive on the left, which feels chaotic for the first five minutes and then oddly natural as the road hugs one perfect bay after another.<\/p>\n

When To Go And How To Outsmart The Crowds<\/h2>\n

Beach.com\u2019s climate analysis found Trunk Bay has great conditions roughly 10 months a year, but the sweet spot is April through June. You get dry season sunshine without peak winter prices, plus fewer cruise ship day trippers staking out every square foot of sand by lunchtime.<\/p>\n

Mid December through mid April is classic Caribbean high season: flawless weather, but fuller ferries and higher room rates. During that window, treat Trunk Bay like a popular brunch spot.
