From the West Front of the Capitol in Washington D.C., Joe Biden officially took office as the 46th President of the United States, Kamala Harris became the first woman, first Black person and first South East Asian American to be sworn in as Vice President, and the Donald was finally kicked out of the White House.<\/p>\n<p>It was also the day that Bernie Sanders broke the Internet. On Inauguration Day, an image of the attending Vermont senator with his arms and legs crossed while seated in a socially-distanced fold-up chair, <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/bernie-sanders-mittens-inauguration-day\/\">went viral<\/a>. Bundled up for the 44-degree weather, the one-time presidential hopeful was decidedly dressed down in a brown khaki coat, standard issue disposable face mask and uber cozy knit mittens.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignfull-width wp-image-11332 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2021\/01\/GettyImages-1230690429-1.jpg\" alt=\"Bernie Sanders\" width=\"1024\" height=\"699\" data-gz_credit=\"BRENDAN SMIALOWSKI\/AFP via Getty Images\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The eye-catching winter accessories were made by Jen Ellis, a teacher from Essex Junction in Vermont, according to Buzzfeed\u2018s political reporter, Ruby Cramer, crafted from repurposed wool sweaters and lined with fleece made from recycled plastic bottles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo one can look at those gloves and think he shouldn\u2019t Chair the Senate Budget Committee,\u201d one person tweeted as the image circulated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI see everyone mocking Bernie\u2019s \u2018grandpa at the post office\u2019 vibe today but those mittens are clutch,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Grace_Segers\/status\/1351918534109097985\" target=\"_blank\">tweeted Grace Segers<\/a>, a political reporter for CBS News.<\/p>\n<p>The web also exploded with laugh-out-loud memes superimposing the image of the 79-year-old in a number of hysterical settings, from sitting on the couch with the Friends cast to seated next to a hot dog stand in New York City.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignfull-width wp-image-11257 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2021\/01\/GettyImages-1230693881.jpg\" alt=\"Bernie Sanders\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" data-gz_credit=\"TASOS KATOPODIS\/POOL\/AFP via Getty Images\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sanders similarly took all the attention in stride, laughing that he was just trying to be practical while outside in the chilly temps.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn Vermont, we dress warm \u2013 we know something about the cold. And we\u2019re not so concerned about good fashion,\u201d Sanders told <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/therecount\/status\/1351979107190534147\" target=\"_blank\"><em>CBS This Morning\u2019s<\/em> <\/a>Gayle King with a smile. \u201cWe want to keep warm.
