\u201cLook how adorable I am now,\u201d Colman Domingo<\/a> exclaimed during his SNL monologue sketch, after setting the on-set vibe to his exact desires. But the legendary performer\u2019s grooming ritual starts well before he hits the stage. And unsurprisingly, it involves many of the same aspects he used to set the mood during his opening act!<\/p>\n

\u201cSaturday Night Live<\/em> is like stepping into a beautifully orchestrated storm,\u201d Domingo tells GRAZIA,<\/i> exclusively. \u201cYou rehearse, you plan, and then you surrender to the chaos.\u201d To set himself up for success on stage, the 56-year-old actor makes sure to create an environment that lifts him up. \u201cIn my dressing room, I created a sanctuary before the whirlwind,\u201d he confides. \u201cMy makeup artist, Jamie Richmond, and I move with intention, and ease.\u201d<\/p>\n

The two set the mood with \u201ca dreamy jazzy playlist,\u201d Domingo says. And then scent the air with the star\u2019s current favorite fragrance: Valentino\u2019s Anatomy of Dreams: Sogno In Rosso<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s rich, it\u2019s sensual, it breathes confidence into the air,\u201d he exclaims. Indeed, the amber-rich scent oozes sexiness thanks to notes of spicy black pepper, orange blossom, sandalwood, and vanilla bourbon.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fragrance has to meet that moment with you,\u201d the actor, next up in season three of Euphoria<\/i>, explains, \u201cit has to be bold enough to hold its ground, but fluid enough to evolve.\u201d The scent is that finishing touch in his grooming routine that propels him in front of the audience \u2014 and the cameras. \u201cThat\u2019s how I walk out there \u2014 centered, open, and ready to dance with whatever comes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Before that mist of fragrance, Richmond amped up the actor\u2019s preternatural sparkle. \u201cWhen it comes to men\u2019s makeup, my goal is always a natural, healthy glow that lasts all night,\u201d says Richmond, who also works with Tariq Withers and Nick Pugliese, and has collaborated with Domingo for years. \u201cFor Colman, I started with Valentino Beauty V-Lighter Face Base Primer in Ambra<\/a>, which gives illuminating hydration and preps the skin beautifully.\u201d<\/p>\n

Next, she evened out his complexion with Very Valentino 24-Hour Wear Liquid Foundation<\/a>, blending three shades: Deep Ambra 3, Deep Neutra 2, and Deep Rosa 3. She camouflaged spots with a touch of concealer. \u201cI usually avoid heavy concealers on men, but the Very Valentino Concealer<\/a> has medium coverage and it\u2019s buildable. Plus, it has caffeine, which helps defuse,\u201d Richmond says.<\/p>\n

After handling Domingo\u2019s complexion, Richmond went in with the big guns to heighten definition. She highlighted high points on his face with a light sweep of Valentino Beauty Dreamiest. For a \u201csubtle edge,\u201d she traced lids with Valentino Beauty Color Graph Eyeliner<\/a> \u201cfor just enough definition to make his eyes pop without looking done.\u201d A swipe of Spike Valentino Disco Balm in Bold Brown<\/a> on Domingo\u2019s sumptuous lips added a kiss of hydration and \u201ca long-lasting tint,\u201d says the pro. A light dusting of powder \u2014 specifically Valentino Beauty Go-Clutch Powder in Medium-Deep 04<\/a> \u2014 and Domingo was ready for an epic
