With her elegant stature, hyper-feminine, confident curves and golden honey hue, she\u2019s garnered a legion of mega-fans. A symbol of pop culture, she\u2019s lived several incarnations, ever evolving her story for over 20 years. No, I\u2019m not referring to multi-hyphenate <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/rihanna-dior-jadore-campaign-steven-klein\/\">Rihanna<\/a>, whose very essence inspired the new <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/inside-club-jadore-celebrating-dior-jadore-intense-fragrance\/\">J\u2019adore Intense<\/a>. I\u2019m talking about\u2026 the legendary bottle.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>In the world of perfumery, judging a book by its cover is <em>de rigueur<\/em>. The flacon of a fragrance is the gateway drug, the love-at-first-sight turn-on and the tangible identity of the scent. Simply put, top sellers have memorable vessels. Take, for instance, the slightly subversive stiletto of <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/articles\/work-of-art-walk-this-way-with-carolina-herrera\/\">Carolina Herrera\u2019s Good Girl<\/a>. Or Jean Paul Gauthier Le Male\u2019s buff torso. Since its inception, Dior\u2019s J\u2019adore practically doubles as an object d\u2019art, a totem rich in brand codes.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Instantly recognizable and synonymous with the famed French fashion house, the J\u2019adore amphora follows the curves of the figure eight silhouette designed by Christian Dior in 1947 to establish his nipped-in New Look. But there\u2019s much more to the story of how the bottle came to be than a single reference.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>When production on J\u2019adore started in 1996, the house looked to an unexpected artisan to envision and create the packaging for the new white floral fragrance. Enter wunderkind jewelry designer Herv\u00e9 Van der Straeton, whose first collection was so well received that he started his own company at age 19. The artist worked in finely gilded, hand-hammered brass that caught the eye of fashion\u2019s elite. Van der Straeton was tapped to create accessories for runway shows for \u201cmajor couturiers,\u201d he recalls in an exclusive interview.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The artist was briefed by Madame Marie-Christine de Sayn Wittgenstein, the creative director at Dior Perfumes at the time, who he remembers as \u201cthe embodiment of Parisian chic, with natural style and a voice like velvet,\u201d and set to work dreaming up a form for the as-yet-unnamed scent. Van der Straeton presented hundreds of watercolor sketches that were then developed into models.\u00a0 \u201cI had suggested tall bottles, in harmony with John Galliano\u2019s astonishing, elegant creations, which in turn evoked Monsier Dior\u2019s aesthetic,\u201d he says. The British designer had just taken the reins at the house. At first, Van der Staeton\u2019s drawings with delicate necks that were tough to manufacture were balked at, but eventually a compromise was struck. The result: \u201ca highly streamlined design that was both futuristic and yet rooted in history.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>A gilded, gadrooned cap topped off the elegant design. \u201cThe inspiration came from the emblematic neck rings worn by the so-called \u201cgiraffe women\u201d of the Padaung tribe of Myanmar, which Galliano had reimagined for one of his shows,\u201d Van der Straeton reveals. With the 1999 launch, Van der Straeton\u2019s design boasted a crystal bottle with matte gold neck rings. The adornments evolved to be more fluid in the 2010s, with the flacon becoming a bit more sensual and rounded. 2023 marked the incarnation of <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/articles\/francis-kurkdjian-dior-interview\/\">L\u2019Or de J\u2019adore<\/a>, Francis Kurkdjian\u2019s take on the iconic scent, with a warm, melted-by-the-sun voluptuousness to the aroma and a molten gold cap to match. For the just-dropped J\u2019adore Intense, the update has major implications beyond the cosmetic. The weight of the glass has been reduced by 53%, making it ultra light and extraordinarily environmentally conscious. Following suit, the gilding on the neck is lightly etched, topped with a new golden bead.<\/p>\r\n<figure id=\"attachment_111284\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-111284\" style=\"width: 1280px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-111284 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2026\/04\/F003_J_ADORE_REPUSH_L_OR24_M02Z_GALLERIE_SW_F39-scaled-e1775672929801.jpg\" alt=\"Dior J'adore Intense\" width=\"1280\" height=\"666\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-111284\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rihanna stars in the campaign for J&#8217;adore Intense. (Photo courtesy of Christian Dior Parfums)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>But while the vessel of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dior.com\/en_us\/beauty\/products\/jadore-intense-E000000713.html?utm_source=google&amp;utm_medium=cpc&amp;utm_campaign=PCD_PC_USA_ALL_UNI_ALL_OGOING_EC_PLA_GGL_CRD_ENG_USD_NOA_GEN&amp;gclsrc=aw.ds&amp;gad_source=1&amp;gad_campaignid=21714629692&amp;gbraid=0AAAAADyjeu0eSeFJACiCqb1-QZpF5zxL_&amp;gclid=CjwKCAjw-dfOBhAjEiwAq0RwI9gHIcRWNNOaY0IkO6qfk2r4ZkKXxqy2LA8uPqYJqdQxjTtq860mCBoCKtIQAvD_BwE\" target=\"_blank\">J\u2019adore Intense<\/a> may be decidedly more subtle, the juice is its boldest incarnation yet. \u201cI wanted the fragrance to be more voluptuous, confident, playful and sensual,\u201d says Kurkdjian, who had the face of the brand, and her unapologetic bodaciousness, in mind.\u201dRihanna is naturally inspiring and intense,\u201d he exclaims. To push J\u2019adore\u2019s floral bouquet of rose, jasmine and ylang ylang to \u201cunprecedented fruity and sensory extremes,\u201d he blended the warm, syrupy fruity facets of the flowers in a new way to bring out \u201ca sort of gourmand glow.\u201d The result: an unabashedly sultry, yet sophisticated spritz. A power-packed scent with not-to-be-underestimated curves. \u201cIt is a J\u2019adore for a new era, Kurkdjian says, \u201cthat risks making a change.\u201d A new era,
