As British GQ<\/em> journalist Jonathan Heaf writes, \u201cComing to fame for the way one looks has never carried more complexity.\u201d In the realm of celebrity, it\u2019s not enough anymore to just \u201cbe pretty.\u201d John Mayer put it perfectly, recently actually, when he tweeted, \u201cIf you’re pretty, you’re pretty; but the only way to be beautiful is to be loving. Otherwise, it’s just \u2018congratulations about your face.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

It both baffles and annoys me then that Emily Ratajkowski \u2013 a model, CEO and activist \u2013 is still criticized (a lot) for posting \u201csexy\u201d images. It\u2019s as though a woman with sexual allure can\u2019t be complex or politically-minded \u2013 or heaven forbid she\u2019s both these things. It\u2019s as though she should \u201cput some clothes on\u201d before she takes her rightful seat at the table. If coronavirus has given perspective on anything, it\u2019s that this argument is definitely tired and done.<\/p>\n

Yes, Ratajkowski is quarantined inside her Tribeca apartment in New York City with her film producer husband Sebastian Bear-McClard. For the record, she\u2019s finding isolation \u201cinteresting,\u201d as she tells Heaf. She understands some married couples could end up divorced after this is all over, but that she\u2019s in a good partnership and spends a lot of her days working on her label Inamorata, writing a new book of essays and feeling all the anxious feels that you and I do.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that\u2019s the hardest part: this looming kind of threat that\u2019s everywhere,\u201d she says. \u201cIt\u2019s more like there\u2019s no way to know how long this is going to go on for or the severity of it. I think that\u2019s producing the anxiety in most people.\u201d<\/p>\n

(As a writer, I was interested in the fact Ratajkowski likes to write at night. \u201cThe best writing I do is as I\u2019m falling asleep,\u201d she says. \u201cI take notes on my phone and I will write down anecdotes on a topic. I\u2019ll just write them as they come; a flow of consciousness. And then usually I will look at them the next morning and, hopefully, some of it will make sense.\u201d)<\/p>\n
