It’s Timothée Chalamet‘s fashionable world and we’re just living it. Tonight in the heart of New York City, the Beautiful Boy actor stepped onto the red (read: cream) carpet as one of the Met Gala’s youngest ever co-chairs. His relatively sharp rise to stardom has thrust the 25-year-old into sartorial fame, quickly becoming a fashion icon.

So when it came to meeting the gala’s annual theme, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” his approach was nonchalant. Seriously, he may be the only person that can wear sweats to the Met and get away with it (okay other than Kanye West I guess). Speaking to Keke Palmer on the steps of the Met, he explained he wanted to pay homage to an amalgamation of designers.

“This is a bit of everything as well as my homage to Chuck Taylor, we have Rick Owens underneath, this is Haider Ackerman,” he said pointing to his pants and then double breasted white suit – the collar turned up.

Chalamet is no stranger to wearing sneakers and suits. Chuck Taylor was an American basketball player and shoe salesman so it only make sense the staple court shoes would be given spotlight (watch these white high-tops sell out everywhere). As for Rick Owens, the actor wore a glittering two-piece from the designer (and Cartier) to the Venice Film Festival Dune premiere earlier this month.

While Haider Ackermann is in fact, French, no red carpet would be complete without his masterful tailoring often frequented by the actor.

The event’s timing (amid a once-in-a-lifetime pandemic) is not lost on the 25-year-old however. “It feels like a stupidly big honor let’s put it like that,” he told Palmer. “And trying to keep it respectful of the two years all of us have had. I don’t want to get too lost in the glamour of it because people are suffering.”

Chalamet is set to star in Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch (if you haven’t watched his bathtub scene, you won’t regret it) and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune alongside Zendaya later this year.
