The upcoming Sex and the City reboot, And Just Like That…, is throwing us curve balls left and right. As the highly anticipated HBO Max show films, they’ve now released a sneak peak of a very controversial and eyebrow-raising on-screen interaction: Sarah Jessica Parker and Chris Noth (as Carrie Bradshaw and Mr. Big, respectively) are shown kissing in an intimate engagement.

Now, fans of the original show may remember that Mr. Big and Carrie’s relationship was… tumultuous at best. It was a constant struggle between his apprehensiveness to commit versus Carrie’s inner tug to stay with him regardless. But no matter how you feel about this on-again off-again duo, the information we have leading up to this kiss make the scene very confusing, story-wise.

As more and more information about And Just Like That… rolls out, we’ve learned a couple things. As we know, at the end of the second Sex and the City movie, Carrie and Mr. Big tied the knot, but through a leaked scene in the script, we see that everything isn’t all peaches and cream for the couple. The scene in question involves a chat between Carrie and friends Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), Charlotte York Goldenblatt (Kristin Davis) and newcomer Stanford Blatch (played by Willie Garson).

“I was taping the podcast, I was washing my hair. Yes, I wasn’t eating or sleeping, but at least I felt good about my marriage. Now I’m just one of the wives he was taking care of?” she says.

From that alone, the romantic gesture between the two was not expected, unless the situation starts out all lovey-dovey and then turns sour, or if the sneak peak we saw was some sort of flashback as Carrie reminisces about her husband. Because, as we all know, the cast was spotted filming a funeral scene in NYC. Could Mr. Big be the character getting the axe?
