During the height of lockdown in 2020, we spent equal parts baking banana bread, drinking wine, and waiting for Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s rolodex of fashionable mirror selfies on Instagram. But in a new interview with ELLE UK, the model and beauty mogul has described a different lockdown from her apparent Bottega Veneta-filled social media feed.

“There are a lot of public figures out there talking about how, ‘We’re all in this together,'” she says with an eye roll, according to the publication. “We might be experiencing the same circumstances, but you’re in your Beverly Hills mansion with a pool and private tutors and you expect someone who’s in a council flat, who’s dealing with an untold amount of misfortune, to believe that ‘We’re all in this together?!’”

The 33-year-old’s sentiment rings true for many of us. And she too has admitted that her vice to coping with the global emergency came down to a lot of wine.

“You have to just go and lock yourself in the bathroom or pour yourself a very large glass of wine at the end of the night. And it’s just the way it is. That’s real and that is life and I’m not going to sugarcoat it.”

Huntington-Whiteley also told the publication that running has become her new therapy.

In October, Selena Gomez revealed that lockdown was detrimental to her own mental health.

“I’d say I’m a big-time extrovert, so I get that it’s a bit harder. “In the beginning, I couldn’t deal with [quarantine] that well. I kind of went into a bit of a depression,” she told Dr. Vivek Murthy, the surgeon general under President Barack Obama, on Instagram Live.

“I think I even posted on my Instagram where I was crying, explaining to all the people who were following me how much I miss them,” she said. “It’s OK [that it’s been difficult].”

Huntington-Whiteley and her family are based in the UK, where the country is only just making their way out of lockdown.
