The future King of England, Prince George, has celebrated his eighth birthday and where did the last eight years ago? On 22 July 2013 the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcomed their first son and royals fans will remember the moment they presented him to the world, with the hour’s old newborn giving his first royal wave.

Now, eight years on, his mother Kate Middleton has shared a gorgeous new picture of the young prince, taken by herself. Wearing navy blue shorts and an orange-striped polo shirt, George has a big cheeky smile on his face, as he posed on the bonnet of a Land Rover Defender car.

“Turning eight(!) tomorrow,” the official account for Kate and William shared on 21 July, revealing the new picture of the royal.

His family were quick to send their own love, with his great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II’s official account sharing: “Wishing Prince George a very happy 8th birthday today!”

His grandfather Prince Charles added: “A very Happy Birthday to Prince George!” William and Kate’s Twitter account later acknowledged the public’s warm wishes on their son’s special day, writing: “Thank you for all your lovely messages on Prince George’s eighth birthday!”

George’s picture also had a sweet message behind it, as his late great-grandfather Prince Philip, who died in April a few months short of his 100th birthday, regularly drove Land Rovers.

During his funeral, the Duke’s coffin was carried by a specially adapted defender which he helped design.
The image was taken earlier this month in Norfolk, where the Cambridges have their family home, Anmer Hall, close to the Queen’s Sandringham residence.

Little is known about George’s personality, although fans saw his love for soccer when he attended several of the Euros 2020 games in early July with his parents and was caught on camera jubilant and jumping up and down as England scored.

In 2020 , his godmother Julia Samuel, his late grandmother Princess Diana’s best friend, shared that the young boy “is amazing,” adding that he is “ funny and feisty and cheeky and God, [Diana] would have loved him so much.”
