Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey was first described as “wide-ranging” and while we expected a slew of shocking truths, we could not have imagined what occurred next. Following the airing of the tell-all interview in the U.S., Markle has revealed that the Palace was concerned about the skin color of the couple’s first child, Archie, before he was born.

“What? Who is having that conversation with you? What?” Oprah remarks, visibly shocked.

“I think that would be very damaging to them,” replies Markle, straightening her dress. “That was relayed to me, that was Harry’s conversations with family.”

In the Black Lives Matter era, it is inconceivable to think such racism exists within the highly influential monarchy.

In addition, Markle was allegedly told her son would not receive official royal protection when he was born, and would not be given a “prince” like the other grandchildren. Markle says she never received an explanation.

“They were saying they didn’t want him to be a prince or a princess—not knowing what the gender would be, which would be different from protocol—and that he wasn’t going to receive security.”

The UK press was particularly scathing on Markle’s pregnancy. One headline from the Daily Mail read, “Why can’t Meghan Markle keep her hands off her bump? Experts tackle the question that has got the nation talking: Is it pride, vanity, acting – or a new age bonding technique?”

Comparatively and just 12 months prior, similar images were published of Kate Middleton’s pregnancy with a headline reading, “Not long to go! Pregnant Kate tenderly cradles her baby bump while wrapping up her royal duties ahead of maternity leave – and William confirms she’s due ‘any minute now.'”

Elsewhere in the interview, Markle detailed a time when Kate Middleton reduced her to tears and how she considered ending her own life.

Markle and Prince Harry now reside in Montecito, California. The last interview the couple gave was with ITV’s Tom Bradby at the end of their South African tour in 2019.
