Max Mara has always been a house of powerful women, of style and substance and insouciant glamor. At the Fall 2021 show, the brand celebrated 70 years in the best way possible – with a show that delivered on all sartorial fronts (mid-pandemic and all).

But collection (and coats!) aside, another detail worth dissecting was the incredible beauty look. Tom Pecheux was behind the makeup, and for the most part he kept things clean and simple: fresh, dewy skin, glossed lips, minimal blush. But it was a unique shade of khaki green painted across each model’s eyes that made a statement. It was matte and opaque – more of a pigment than powder and the perfect complement to the Earthy greens, ochres and browns that ran collectively through the clothes themselves.

As for hair, there wasn’t really a common creative brief. Rather, stylist Holly Smith worked with each model’s natural texture and movement. Some had long, soft, brushed-out waves, whereas others wore tight braids. Choppy fringes, pixie crops and short, feathered bobs were also on show – some even wore printed silk hair scarfs; a fitting nod to the brand’s 1951 inception.

If there are any trends to take note of, consider adding silk headscarves and khaki green to your repertoire. The khaki especially is a fresh update to classic taupes and browns, especially when worn as a single-shade across the eye.
