Lizzo is many things: A Grammy-winning songwriter, a talented flautist, a modern style icon with 10 million Instagram followers at her beck and call. She is also, as it turns out, an avid Halloween fan—and this year she arguably had the best costumes of anybody on the internet.
First, she dressed up as *that* fly—the one that famously stole the show at the vice presidential debate by sitting on Mike Pence’s head, undisturbed, for two long minutes. Lizzo’s costume was replete with a black and purple latex bodysuit and multiple ‘I Voted’ badges. In one of three videos, Lizzo twerked atop Pence’s head to ‘I Don’t Fuck With You’ by Big Sean, the lyrics of which are well worth a re-read, should you be interested in her opinion on the current VP. In case anyone was left wondering where the 32-year-old’s political allegiances lay, she captioned the video: “I voted for Biden.”
As if we deserved more, a few hours later Lizzo revealed a second costume, dressing as the titular “Wet Ass P*ssy” from Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s 2020 anthem, WAP. Wearing a spandex blue bodysuit, cat ears and a cut-out bra, Lizzo danced to the year-defining track in the backyard of her palatial Mexican resort where she is currently holidaying. “now THAT’S some wet ass pussy,” she wrote.
In a year of many lows, Lizzo has proved an enduring beacon of light, be it the ‘VOTE’ manicure she wore to the Billboard Awards, her delightful vegan TikTok recipes, or the truly transcendental Instagram Live she did with SZA in April, in which she played the flute while SZA provided breathwork exercises. In short? In a moment where it feels like there is little to be grateful for, we can at least be grateful for Lizzo.
