Any chance to revel in Princess Diana ’s style, and we are in. On Thursday, Kristen Stewart was seen on the Dülmen, Germany set of her latest movie, Spencer, in which the Twilight actress portrays the late Lady Di. True to the British royal’s style, Stewart was spotted in a tartan blazer, cream turtleneck, black knee-length skirt, sheer tights, and sunglasses; even her punk rock lengths had been transformed into Diana’s famous feathered shag.

It was a look pulled straight from the Princess of Wales’s January 1989 trip to Portsmouth—though of course she was no stranger to plaid and turned up in the classic print on countless occasions, be it a double-breasted coat for a visit to Cullompton in September of 1990, a Batsheva-like frock at Taurus Training Centre in Swindon, Wiltshire… or a matching skirt and blazer set for a day spent at St. Helen’s Rugby Club in Swansea, Wales in February of 1992. (For proof just queue up season four of Netflix’s The Crown, which sees Emma Corrin play a young Diana Spencer.)

So what else will Stewart wear in her portrayal of the fashion icon? Bold-shoulder gowns?  Patterns and pops of color? Only time will tell (the film is due out in the fall of 2021), but one thing is for sure: 32 years on, the People’s Princess remains a style muse to many—whether you’re trying to master a sweatshirt and biker short moment or make a tweed blazer look utterly effortless.
