In another capitalized Twitter rant, Kanye West has announced to his 31 million followers that he will “personally see to it that Taylor Swift gets her masters back,” noting that Scooter Braun is a close family friend. Swift has been trying to own the masters to her first six studio albums for years and publicly spoke out about the sale of her catalogue to Scooter Braun back in July 2019. West’s tweet is a nice olive branch to Swift after a decade of bad blood that began at the 2009 VMAs.

The ‘Cardigan’ singer vowed she would take steps to reclaim her work, by re-recording all her songs when the restrictions lift in November 2020. It seems ‘Ye has also jumped on the artists-owning-their-masters wagon as well. With the Gold Digger rapper letting his intentions be known over on Twitter. The tweets have seen him sharing pages of contracts with Island Def Jam Music Group, urinating on his Grammy, calling on famous friends (and frenemies) to join the cause and, most recently, publishing a series of tweets called New Recording and Publishing Deal Guidelines. The proposed guidelines cover everything from who owns the recordings, dependents, equity and blanket licenses, advances and royalties.

While it’s not confirmed whether Swift will take up West’s offer, it seems that he is set on changing the music industry for generations to come.
