Despite their best efforts, Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez have struck out in love.

The actress and the former Yankees baseball player released a joint statement breaking the bad news on April 15.

“We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so,” the statement reads. “We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other and one another’s children.”

Lopez is mom to 13-year-old twins, son Maximilian and daughter Emme, with her former husband, Marc Anthony. Rodriguez is dad to daughters Ella, 12, and Natasha, 16, with his ex-wife, Cynthia Scurtis. Lopez and Rodriguez added in the statement: “Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have is to say thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support.”

The announcement comes almost one month after rumors spread that they had broken up and the pair admitted they were “working through some things.”

Lopez, 51, and 45-year-old Rodriguez had been dating for two years before they got engaged in March 2019. Despite making plans for their picture-perfect nuptials, Lopez appeared to hint in January there could be some cracks in the relationship.

“We postponed the wedding twice. We had planned what we really, really wanted to do, [but] I don’t know if we’ll be able to recreate that,” she told Elle. “We canceled it, and since then we haven’t really talked about it. There’s no rush. We want to do it right when we can do it.”

She then admitted in the February issue of Allure that she and A-Rod had gone through couple’s therapy and she found it “really helpful.”

On April 10, Lopez again raised eyebrows when she posed for an Instagram photo in the Dominican Republic with her ring finger conspicuously bare.
