The Dolce & Gabbana Alta Sartoria runway show garnered some of the biggest celebrity names to Venice this week. From Jennifer Lopez (looking as regal as ever) to Heidi Klum, Helen Mirren, Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Scott. The Italian luxury house spared no expense for what was expected to be a lavish evening. But it seems Mother Nature had more sinister ideas.

The forecast for bad weather was expected with the show originally moved forward by one hour. Unfortunately, it failed to help.

In footage posted to social media, the runway which had been making its way through a spectacular 110-look show was doused by hail. Guests who were overlooking the Arsenale threw up their umbrellas in a panicked flurry while others ran for cover. In a video published by @diet_prada, people could be heard muttering “ow!” and “sh*t!”. On the runway, models were seemingly unaffected by the weather.

Simon Huck, an entertainment executive, documented the storm on Instagram stories.

In the official livestream of the event, the House’s designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, braved the hail to walk down the lengthy runway for the finale. They could be seen in a poor attempt to shield their head with their hands. Skip to 12:25 to view the moment.

Dolce & Gabbana later published a series of light-hearted images to social media, sharing the aftermath of the saturated runway. At least the models look like they are having fun.

The freak weather event is reminiscent to a storm that moved over Manhattan last week. In what was dubbed as a “comeback concert” for New York City was instead cancelled halfway through Barry Manilow’s performance.

One attendee recalled the moment to GRAZIA, saying, “I feel like Mother nature is trying to tell us something and we’re not listening. We’re just dancing amongst the chaos.”

Somehow I don’t think Mother Nature is done with us yet.
