Chanel has announced the location of its Cruise 2022 show, which is set to take place this May. The luxury house confirmed in a press release that this year the collection will once again return to its infamous destination setting – namely, the idyllic limestone quarries of Carrières de Lumières in Les Baux-de-Provence, a small town in the South of France.

Carrières de Lumières has become a major tourist attraction in recent years, and has also served as the backdrop to several art installations, with the likes of Van Gogh and Cézanne staging engaging light and sound productions. It also marks the first time that Chanel’s creative director Virginie Viard will decamp the spectacular show to an international arena.

The fashion house remains optimistic that this runway, slated for May 4, will go ahead despite having to cancel the previous year’s showing in Capri, which was later revealed via video. Chanel’s spectacular Métiers d’Art collection was also forced to go ahead with an audience of only one – actress and ambassador for the label, Kristen Stewart – last December in the Loire Valley’s Château de Chenonceau, which is situated just outside of Paris.

Meanwhile it was announced just days ago that the upcoming Paris Couture shows will all be digital-only. Although the city came out of lockdown in recent weeks, the organizers behind the event confirmed that no audience would be permitted to attend.

“The instructions from the Paris police headquarters stipulate that there should be no public attendance, whether it is for fashion shows or any other event,” Pascal Morand, executive president of the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, told WWD.
