While the world collectively lost its mind at the news of Bennifer 2.0 (Jennifer Lawrence included) Ben Affleck stayed notoriously quiet on his rekindled love with Jennifer Lopez. Except for that Saint-Tropez kiss. Speaking to Adweek in a rare interview, the actor gushed about the popstar and the kind of influence and inspiration she is to women of color.
“All I can tell you is that I have seen firsthand the difference representation makes,” Affleck recalled, “because I have seen over and over and over and over, women of color approach Jennifer and tell her what her example as a strong woman, and a woman succeeding and demanding her fair share in the business world, means to them.”
He added, “I am in awe of what Jennifer’s effect on the world is.”
Lopez has signed a multi-year deal with Netflix which will see her own company Nuyorican Productions, produce film and television content for the streaming service. Her hope is to highlight female writers, directors and actors in the industry.
“Jennifer has inspired a massive group of people to feel they have a seat at the table in this country,” the 49-year-old continued. “That is an effect few people throughout history have had, one I will never know and one I can only stand by and admire with respect.”
The couple made their first red carpet appearance at the Venice Film Festival in early September and attended The Last Duel premiere where Affleck served as a writer with Matt Damon on the film. Lopez took to Instagram to candidly promote the film.
“Throwback to the Venice Film Festival for the premiere of #TheLastDuel,” she wrote on social media. “I had such a beautiful time!! And I’m so excited for you guys to see this movie!! It’s the first script Matt and Ben have written together along with Nicole Holofcener since Good Will Hunting!! And it’s amazing!! The acting by the whole cast is fantastic. Jodie Comer plays the lead and she is awesome!!! It was a magical trip and I hope you enjoy the pics!! #TBT Baci Baci Baci 💋💋 #VivaItalia 🇮🇹.”
