In April, Mischa Barton opened up about one of the reasons for her shock departure on the early aughts show, <\/span>The O.C<\/span><\/i>, claiming in an interview with <\/span>E!<\/span><\/i><\/a> that \u201cbullying\u201d by \u201csome of the men on set\u201d left her feeling \u201creally s\u2013tty\u201d and was, in part, why she decided to leave the series.<\/span><\/p>\n

Barton, who played Marissa Cooper until she left the series in season three, said at the time, \u201cI think that\u2019s the internal struggle. There were people on that set that were very mean to me. It wasn\u2019t, like, the most ideal environment for a young, sensitive girl who\u2019s also been thrust into stardom to have to put up with.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Following the actress\u2019 allegations of bullying on set, a source spoke to <\/span>Page Six<\/span><\/i><\/a> saying the show\u2019s crew was frustrated that Barton\u2014who was a teenager at the time, might we add\u2014would constantly \u201cshow up late\u201d for filming.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt wasn\u2019t that she was bullied. People didn\u2019t appreciate waiting for hours for her to show up,\u201d they said, adding that Barton and her mum, who was also her manager, created \u201ca mess.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In a statement to <\/span>Page Six<\/span><\/i> in response to the claims, Barton said, \u201cThere was a lot going on. Whether I was late or not doesn\u2019t excuse certain behaviour from individuals in powerful positions. Everyone experiences things differently and where I acknowledge some of my past behaviour may not have been helpful in certain instances, I will tell my truth when I feel ready.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Barton\u2019s <\/span>O.C <\/span><\/i>co-stars Rachel Bilson and Melinda Clarke spoke about Barton\u2019s recent claims about the culture on set, calling the whole thing \u201cperplexing\u201d on an episode of <\/span>their podcast, <\/span>Welcome to the OC, Bitches!<\/span><\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cYou know Melinda and I were talking immediately after [the interview] came out. And we were just like, \u2018Wait, what?’\u201d Bilson, who played Summer Roberts on the series, said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Clarke, who portrayed Marissa Cooper\u2019s mum, explained, \u201cSomeone who is 16, 17, 18 \u2014 that amount of hours of work, pressure, at such a young age \u2014 at best, you\u2019re exhausted and at worst, it\u2019s overwhelming and chaotic so, it kinda breaks my heart a little to know [that].\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cWe knew there was a lot of pressure on her but if it was really that bad of an experience, that\u2019s not right for any young person. But, some of the comments were very perplexing to me. So, I don\u2019t know what the truth is about that. I do know that, yes, this was an enormous amount of pressure for her.
