Demi Moore<\/a> has taken home the 2025 Golden Globes<\/a> award for Best Actress In A Motion Picture in the Musical\/Comedy category for her role in body horror film The Substance<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Moore, 62, plays Elizabeth Sparkle, an ageing Hollywood actress-turned-aerobics-workout-host who gets fired by her vulgar network boss because she is deemed \u2018too old\u2019. Somehow, Elizabeth gets involved in a body enhancement program known as The Substance, and, after many injections, goes into a state of hibernation as a younger version of herself is born in Sue (played by Margaret Qualley<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Upon accepting the golden gong, Moore recalled her early career when she, like Elizabeth, didn\u2019t feel enough for this industry. And in her anecdote came a powerful message for all women, one which brought the room to a roaring applause.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been doing this for over 45 years. And this is the first time I\u2019ve ever won anything and I\u2019m so humbled and grateful. Thirty years ago, I had a producer tell me that I was a popcorn actress, and at that time, I made that mean that this [award] wasn\u2019t something that I was allowed to have. <\/em><\/p>\n

“It meant that I could do movies that were successful and that made a lot of money but that I couldn\u2019t be acknowledged, and I believed that. That corroded me over time, to the point where I thought a few years ago that maybe this was it, maybe I was complete, maybe I had already done what I was supposed to do.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI was at kind of a low point and then I had this magical, bold, courageous, out-of-the-box, absolutely bonkers script come across my desk called\u00a0The Substance, and the universe told me that you’re not done. I am so grateful to [director] Coralie [Fargeat] for trusting me to step in and play.<\/em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI’ll just leave you with one thing that I think this movie is imparting: <\/em><\/p>\n

In those moments when we don’t think we’re smart enough or pretty enough or skinny enough or successful enough, or basically just not enough\u2014I had a woman say to me, \u2018Just know, you will never be enough; but you can know the value of your worth if you just put down the measuring stick.\u2019 <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSo, today I celebrate this as a marker of my wholeness and of the love that is driving me and for the gift of doing something I love and being reminded that I do belong.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
