Taylor Swift<\/a> has put the rumours of a feud between her and Charli XCX to bed after openly praising the English musician in a new profile. Providing a quote to <\/span>New York <\/span><\/i><\/a>magazine<\/a> for a feature on XCX, Swift openly praised the 32-year-old\u2019s artistry<\/a> after fans suspected her of penning a diss track directed at <\/span>The Tortured Poet Department <\/span><\/i><\/a>singer on her sixth studio album, <\/span>brat<\/span><\/i><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n

The song, titled \u201cSympathy is a knife\u201d, chronicles XCX\u2019s self-doubt and insecurities about her image after being \u201ctriggered\u201d by an unnamed antagonist. XCX scattered clues at who the anonymous agitator could be, but it was the line \u201cDon’t wanna see her backstage at my boyfriend’s show \/ Fingers crossed behind my back I hope they break up quick\u201d that led netizens to assume she was singing about Swift. <\/span><\/p>\n

(For the uninitiated XCX is engaged to The 1975 drummer George Daniel. His bandmate, frontman Matty Healy<\/a>, dated Swift for a few months in 2023.) Now it appears the pair have both figuratively and potentially literally worked it out on the remix, as she and Lorde<\/a> sing on \u201cGirl So Confusing\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been blown away by Charli\u2019s melodic sensibilities since I first heard \u2018Stay Away\u2019 in 2011,\u201d Swift said. \u201cHer writing is surreal and inventive, always,\u201d she continued before adding, \u201cShe just takes a song to places you wouldn\u2019t expect it to go, and she\u2019s been doing it consistently for over a decade.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI love to see hard work like that pay off,” she finished.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For her part, XCX continued to deny that the single is aimed at anyone in particular. \u201cThat song is about me and my feelings and my anxiety and the way my brain creates narratives and stories in my head when I feel insecure and how I don\u2019t want to be in those situations physically when I feel self-doubt,\u201d she divulged. XCX also confirmed that she has written a new version of the song, with fans predicting Swift\u2019s inclusion in the piece could be an Easter Egg<\/a> hinting at her featuring on the remix.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

XCX opened for Swift on her <\/span>Reputation <\/span><\/i>tour in 2018. Following her stint, XCX tweeted that she felt as if she was \u201cgetting up onstage and waving to 5-year-olds,\u201d which earned the ere of Swift\u2019s fanbase. But with\u00a0 Swifties hoping that the artist will be releasing the \u201cTaylor\u2019s Version<\/a>\u201d recording of the album, it\u2019s also theorised that XCX might collaborate on a song from \u201cthe vault\u201d, which refers to tracks Swift wrote at the time of the album\u2019s launch but never released.
