Almost 20 years after The Devil Wears Prada<\/em> indirectly inspired a generation of fans to pursue a career in the cutthroat world of fashion, its sequel is finally confirmed.<\/p>\n

As Variety<\/em><\/a> reported, Disney is developing a sequel to the 2006 film, which is now officially in production. The original screenwriter, Aline Brosh McKenna, and director, David Franke, are in talks to tell the next chapter.<\/p>\n

The film, which was adapted from the book<\/a> of the same name by Lauren Weisberger, follows the wide-eyed journalist Andrea ‘Andy’ Sachs, who lands a coveted role as a personal assistant to Miranda Priestly, editor-in-chief of Runway<\/em> magazine. Though she holds no affinity for the fashion industry or the job that \u201ca million girls would die for\u201d, she sets out to endure the fuelling demands of her boss and coworkers. Upon its publication, the novel’s plot garnered worldwide attention for the author’s previously held position as an assistant to Anna Wintour, leaving some to believe it was autobiographical in nature.<\/p>\n

The film also launched a thousand think pieces about the politics of publishing, fashion and even about what really makes a villain in 2000s romcoms (here’s looking at you, Nate), and still sits on style moodboards for its iconic wardrobe<\/a>, courtesy of Patricia Field<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As one of the most defining (and quotable<\/a>) films of the 2000s, its multi-generational fandom has been understandably blowing up the internet with theories and plot projections, but little has actually been confirmed about the project.<\/p>\n

Below, here’s everything we know about the sequel.<\/p>\n

In glorious news, original cast members Meryl Streep<\/a>, Anne Hathaway<\/a>, Emily Blunt<\/a> and Stanley Tucci<\/a> are all set to reprise their original roles.<\/p>\n

Kenneth Branagh is set to join the cast for The Devil Wears Prada 2 as the husband of protagonist Miranda Priestly (played by Streep), the notorious editor-in-chief of Runway<\/em> magazine.<\/p>\n

What is the plot?<\/h2>\n

While Weisberger’s second novel, Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns<\/em><\/a>, follows Andy and Emily as they come together to launch a bridal magazine ten years after her initial foray into fashion, it’s been reported that the film’s sequel will not adhere to the books.<\/p>\n

The plot for the upcoming sequel hasn’t been confirmed, but according to Variety, <\/em>the film will follow Miranda’s journey as editor-in-chief in an era of decline of traditional magazine publishing. Emily Charlton, once the assistant of Miranda (played by Blunt), is now a high-flying executive for a luxury group with control of huge budgets for advertising, something which Runway magazine and Miranda “desperately need”. While this is the reported plot, it remains to be seen how Andy Sachs (played by Hathaway) fits into the film. If you’re familiar with the original, you’ll know she quits the job a “million girls would kill for” at the end of the film, instead landing a role at a newspaper in New York City.<\/p>\n

For now, all we have is the first teaser that has been released, which features two devilish red pumps \u2013 a nod to the original artwork \u2013 with some of the iconic quotes from the first film as voiceovers.<\/p>\n
