From \u201cbreadcrumbing\u201d to \u201clove bombing\u201d, it almost feels like you need to be equipped with an entirely new lexicon to navigate the minefield that is dating<\/a>. Yet, in 2024, one term we naively believed we could leave behind was \u2018ghosting<\/a>\u2019, which for the uninitiated is the act of abruptly vanishing on a romantic interest by ending communication. (To use a method from Cher Horowitz\u2019s vocabulary improvement course, try using the phrase in a sentence rather than practising on a potential date). <\/span><\/p>\n

But there\u2019s no need to be clueless about this red flag. As it turns out, ghosting is more common than we think with even celebrities victims of this unsavoury communication tactic. Yes, Billie Eilish revealed that she was subject to a \u201cliterally unbelievable\u201d ghosting experience late last year. Breaking her silence on this proverbial \u201cbad guy\u201d \u2014or as Eilish describes him, a \u201cf****** little pathetic man\u201d\u2014the songstress opened up to British singer Lily Allen<\/a> and television host Miquita Oliver on their podcast, <\/span>Miss Me? <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

The 22-year-old revealed she was ghosted in December 2023, so while she was gearing up for the awards season circuit<\/a> with <\/span>Barbie<\/a>, <\/span><\/i>performing \u201cWhat Was I Made For?\u201d<\/a>, fronting Gucci\u2019s campaign for its first vegan accessories line and tying up loose ends on her third studio album <\/span>Hit Me Hard And Soft<\/span><\/i>, the star was being left on read. (Something she wasn\u2019t made to do, indeed.) \u201cI\u2019ve been ghosted for sure,\u201d the singer began. \u201cI had a crazy ghosting happen in December. It was insane. It was probably the craziest one that ever happened to me.\u201d The multi-hyphenate musician explained how she felt the encounter didn\u2019t even constitute a ghosting, but rather more akin to a passing as she was left questioning, albeit joking, \u201cDid [he] literally die?\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“It was somebody that I\u2019d also known for years and had a plan\u2014day of, on the phone, making a plan, this is my address, be there at 3pm. Never heard from him again. Ever. Literally it was insane, I couldn\u2019t believe it.” Eilish confirmed that her date never texted her again and that she still, to this day, has never heard from him. \u201cI\u00a0 didn\u2019t know people still did that. I genuinely didn\u2019t know people did that,\u201d she added. Unfortunately for those awaiting a text back from Eilish, you\u2019re one of the 1,993 unread text messages sitting on her phone. <\/span><\/p>\n

Eilish offered a rare glimpse into her personal life<\/a> on her latest release with the song \u201cWildflower\u201d. The single is believed to be dedicated to Devon Lee Carlson, the ex-girlfriend of Eilish\u2019s most recent romantic partner, The Neighbourhoods singer Jesse Rutherford<\/a>. Eilish and Rutherford piqued the interest of many due to their ten-year age gap. In the single, Eilish seemingly laments over potentially crossing the line of her friendship with Carlson, with many speculating she is the subject of the song as she co-owns a stylish tech accessory line that shares the same name.
