Greta Lee wasn\u2019t actually the first choice to play Nora in Korean-Canadian-American playwright Celine Song\u2019s stirring and heartbreaking debut film Past Lives<\/em>, a wistful what-if tale about two ex-lovers who could <\/em>have been together had it not been for geography.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was slowly, completely gobsmacked by what I was reading,\u201d Lee, 40, recently told W Magazine<\/em><\/a> recounting the first time she read the Past Lives<\/em> script. \u201cI cried a lot. Trying to read while crying is physiologically very challenging!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then I auditioned and I didn\u2019t get the job,\u201d she continued. \u201cIt happens and sometimes it hurts more for certain things. A full year later, I got a crazy phone call: \u2018Are you available to meet with Celine Song?\u2019 I had blocked it out of my mind, it was a certain type of heartbreak, you don\u2019t want to think about the guy who dumped you!\u201d<\/p>\n

Upon meeting Song about her \u201csoulmate script\u201d, however, Lee says the pair \u201cfell in love with each other that day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Song\u2019s great ability to move her audience through the modesty of humanity and the universal feeling of yearning for something that could have been, has seen the film garner five Golden Globe nominations<\/a>\u2014including Best Drama, Best Actress and Best Director\u2014a feat for a first time filmmaker.<\/p>\n

Lee, who is best known for her role as Stella Bak in Apple TV+\u2019s The Morning Show<\/em><\/a> (or Morning Wars<\/em> if you\u2019re watching the series from Australia), wore a pale lemon floor-length bimaterial ring dress from Loewe<\/a>‘s Fall\/Winter 2020 Collection\u00a0to today\u2019s Golden Globe Award<\/a>s. Lee moved about the red carpet at the Beverly Hilton\u2014ever so lively\u2014showing off Jonathan Anderson’s impeccable talent for draping.\u00a0A cinched-at-the-waist souffl\u00e9 for the senses, if you will. We love.<\/p>\n
