(Photo by Barham\/Mirrorpix\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Beloved Anglo-Franco actress, singer and model Jane Birkin died at her home in Paris on July 15. She was 76 years old.<\/p>\n<p>The news comes just two months after Birkin cancelled string of concerts, citing health concerns\u2014and two years since the star suffered a stroke.<\/p>\n<p>Despite being born in London in 1946, the French considered Birkin one of their own. Raised by an actor mother and naval officer father, Birkin married music composer John Barry at just 17 years old, a union that would last three years. (Photo by King\/Sunday Mirror\/Mirrorpix\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In 1966, Birkin burned a hole in the cinema screen in Michelangelo Antonioni\u2019s classic film <em>Blow Up<\/em>, a role as a beautiful ingenue that saw the actress catapult to fame. A year later, Birkin moved across the channel to star in romantic comedy titled <em>Slogan <\/em>alongside French singer-songwriter Serge Gainbourgh. In February 1969, they released a song titled \u201cJe t\u2019aime\u2026Moi Non\u201d (\u201cI Love You\u2026Me Neither\u201d), its sexual lyrics led it to be condemned by the Vatican and banned in several countries.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Serge Gainsbourg &amp; Jane Birkin - Je t&#039;aime... moi non plus\/Original videoclip (Fontana 1969)\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GlpDf6XX_j0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe and I became the most famous of couples in that strange way because of Je t\u2019aime and \u2026 he went on being my friend until the day he died. Who could ask for more?\u201d Birkin told <em>CNN<\/em> in 2006. \u201cSo Paris became my home. I\u2019ve been adopted here. (Photo by Alain Dejean\/Sygma via Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Birkin starred in over 70 films; <em>Death On The Nile,<\/em> <em>Evil Under The Sun<\/em>, <em>Cannabis,<\/em> <em>Wonderwall<\/em>, <em>The Pirate,<\/em> the list goes on. My favourite was 1969\u2019s La Piscine where Birkin played fatale teenager Penelope who seduces a writer by a swimming pool along the C\u00f4te d\u2019Azur. (Photo by FilmPublicityArchive\/United Archives via Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Birkin and Gainbourgh\u2019s relationship was up and down\u2014reportedly, Birkin once launched herself into the River Seine after throwing a custard pie in Gainsbourg\u2019s face!\u2014and they ended their romantic relationship in 1980.<\/p>\n<p>Birkin had another daughter, Lou, with French film director Jacques Doillon. Her eldest Kate, a fashion photographer, sadly died in 2013 after falling from a balcony in Paris.
