Fashion is a medium for communicating non-verbal cues through clothing, but sometimes it doesn\u2019t hurt to also emblazon your ensemble with a message of your own. <\/span><\/p>\n

Take Shakira, for instance, who attended Viktor & Rolf\u2019s Haute Couture Fall\/Winter 2023<\/a> collection presentation, \u201cEmbodiment\u201d, to deliver a firm message: \u201cNO.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Not \u201cabsolutely not\u201d or \u201cdon\u2019t even think about it\u201d like a graphic crop top worn by adherents of the Y2K aesthetic would wear, just \u201cNO\u201d. Plain and simple. <\/span><\/p>\n

Haute Couture<\/a> week offers those descending on Paris a unique opportunity to peacock and (not to overuse the bird motif) swan around the streets in runway-rivalling looks<\/a>, so though Shakira\u2019s look is albeit bold, it\u2019s not an unexpected move for someone attending one of Viktor & Rolf\u2019s satirically imaginative Haute Couture shows. <\/span><\/p>\n

Shakira\u2019s \u201cNO\u201d insignia accented a rather minimal wrap dress. The ivory-hued piece bore all the marking of a quintessential tailored staple sitting just below Shakira\u2019s knees and lined with gilded metallic studs. <\/span><\/p>\n

The \u201cNO\u201d itself protruded from the midsection of the dress, communicating loud and clear that Shakira doesn\u2019t want a bar of the antics. <\/span><\/p>\n

At face value, you may interpret Shakira\u2019s statement-making silhouette to be a sartorially espousing of vitriol towards someone or something. <\/span><\/p>\n

Some have suggested her ex-husband, Gerard Piqu\u00e9<\/a>, given his recent extramarital affair inspired the song \u201cMonoton\u00eda\u201d which catapulted Shakira back to the top of the charts with her single. <\/span><\/p>\n

However, this outfit is just further proof that Shakira is a bona fide fashion fan at heart, with the dress inspired by Viktor & Rolf\u2019s Fall\/Winter pr\u00eat-\u00e0-porter collection from 2008. <\/span><\/p>\n

“We love fashion, but it’s going so fast. We wanted to say ‘No’ this season,\u201d described the Dutch design duo to the press<\/a> about their collection in the mid-2000s. <\/span><\/p>\n

Though Shakira\u2019s look deviated from the greyscale colour scheme presented back in 2008, her ensemble was the perfect choice for an occasion that saw phrases like \u201cdream on\u201d and \u201cI wish you well\u201d protrude from swimwear and bodysuits. <\/span><\/p>\n

After all, as Kim Cattrall has taught us<\/a> there is no word in the English language more powerful than that.
