You don’t have to be a film critic to already know, that the most anticipated movie of the year is going to be ultra-fabulous. Set designer Sarah Greenwood laughed as she recalled that during production, “the world ran out of pink,” in an interview with Architectural Digest<\/em><\/a>. With all the buzz surrounding the new Barbie<\/em> Movie, we can already expect everyone’s wardrobes to be filled with all shades of pink.<\/p>\n

The movie follows the plot of the iconic doll, Barbie’s magical journey of self-discovery, empowerment, and endless possibilities as she leaves Barbie Land and embarks on her journey into the real world with her boyfriend, Ken. In an exclusive interview with Vogue<\/em><\/a>, costume designer Jacqueline Durran explains, “I tried to reference the history of Barbie. Barbie is always about the ideal, so through the costumes, we give each character a look that reflects the ultimate Barbie look for where she is in the story at that moment.” That being said, here are all the most iconic Barbie looks that Margot Robbie has so effortlessly pulled off.<\/p>\n

The first-ever teaser for the movie revealed the first-ever look. This scene was inspired by the 1968 sci-fi movie, 2001: A Space Odyssey. <\/em>It shows the shift in history from girls playing with baby dolls to playing with dolls that looked like grown women with careers. This look paid homage to the very first Barbie doll ever created, which came out in 1959. It features a striped swimsuit, and an iconic blonde ponytail, paired with some trendy white sunglasses.<\/p>\n

Barbie could single-handedly bring disco back with just this outfit. This one-piece gold sequined jumpsuit will surely dazzle us when we go see the movie this July. This ensemble captures the glitz and glamour of disco while also offering a sleek and modern twist.<\/p>\n

The reveal of this outfit left fans awe-struck, with one user commenting on how she looked like “she’s attending a Harry Styles Concert.” While others are already using this as an inspiration to wear it to the new Barbie movie. Actress Margot Robbie was spotted wearing a matching two-piece outfit in fuchsia, with a matching necktie scarf and a cowboy hat.<\/p>\n

Margot was wearing a chic blue fitted mini dress with a contrasting white collar, which adds a touch of elegance and refinement to the outfit. Pairing it with statement earrings and a bow adds a playful and fashionable twist.<\/p>\n

Barbie is rocking a colourful ’80s inspired workout ensemble, featuring bold patterns and fun colours. Her outfit consists of a fitted, brightly coloured leotard with abstract designs, paired with high-waisted neon pink shorts. Ken matches her energy with a pink tank top with an abstract print shirt, complemented by shorts featuring neon accents and lively patterns. Both sport neon yellow safety gear and skates, something Ken can go nowhere without.<\/p>\n

Barbie’s very ’50s inspired ensemble exudes timeless charm and showcases her impeccable sense of fashion. Margot is wearing a charming bodice adorned with blue stripes. Her hair is adorned with a blue and white polka-dotted headband and to finish off the look is an added charming blue bracelet.<\/p>\n

Where Barbie goes, Ken goes. Accompanying Barbie’s journey through the real world, the iconic duo is spotted wearing matching pink striped t-shirts and to complete their nautical-inspired look, they both don matching sailor hats, adding a delightful touch of whimsy.<\/p>\n

Barbie has served as an inspiration for many young girls over the years, being the only doll that has had over 200 careers during her lifetime. Truly a trendsetter, Barbie had an astronaut doll that come out in the year 1965, four years before astronaut, Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon. With a wide range of dolls that reflect not only diversity but also differently abled dolls as well, Barbie continued to shatter plastic ceilings and take the world by storm.
