Kourtney Kardashian, Elsa Hosk, Lily Aldridge, Olivia Palermo\u2026we could continue, but a fully exhaustive list would deviate from the point at hand: why has the bob hairstyle persisted as a covetable cut, where other styles die on the salon floor?<\/p>\n<p>On TikTok alone, the hashtags #bobhaircut and #goingshort boast over 706.3 and 3.4 million views, respectively. Numbers that have only exacerbated after the release of <em>Beckham,\u00a0<\/em>with <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/articles\/victoria-beckham-grazia-interview\/\">Posh Spice&#8217;s<\/a> expensive-looking cropped cut further reviving vigour for the hairstyle.<\/p>\n<p>Though, she&#8217;s not the only 90s icon to have her bob become TikTok&#8217;s object of affection, with Meredith Blake from the 1998 film\u00a0<em>The Parent Trip\u00a0<\/em>now being coveted for her chic, blunt, blonde &#8216;do.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-242014\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Meredith-Blake.gif\" alt=\"Meredith-Blake\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Is the style proliferating social media and the streets of Hollywood merely another example of guerrilla influencer marketing?<\/p>\n<p>Seriously, whoever is doing PR for \u201cthe bob\u201d deserves a spot in the publicist hall of fame, alongside the people who do the comms for oat milk and <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/best-ballet-flats-2022\/\">ballet flats.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Or, is the answer something far simpler, with the reason the bob becoming a chic staple look is that it\u2019s just that: perpetually chic.<\/p>\n<p>To help break down the mystique behind the bob\u2014in all of its many variations\u2014leading haircut and colourist Jaye Edwards,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/_edwardsandco\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> EdwardsAndCo\u2019s<\/a> founder, colourist and cutter of one of the original viral bobs (the Binglebob), and Nina Lee, founder of Sydney\u2019s leading creative hair specialist studios <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/extrasilky\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Extra Silky,<\/a> break down why the bob has come back in full force in 2023, and the real reason why the bob has lived on.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Why Is The Bob So Popular?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Simple answer: it\u2019s a style beloved by hair specialists. \u201cThe bob is my favourite cut!\u201d revealed Lee over email from her Petersham salon.<\/p>\n<p>Compared to the shapes and styles hairdressers have in their arsenal, you may think that a bob may be on the easier side. However, it\u2019s not just about the simplicity literally and figuratively shedding your hair, but the overall transformation a bob provides.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span class=\"quotation-style\">\u201cThe bob is the ultimate reinvention hairstyle,\u201d Edwards noted.\u00a0&#8220;When anyone needs a fresh look the bob is a go-to cut. It is blunt and bold, representing an evolution in your life. It just takes an \u2018It\u2019 girl like Hailey Bieber to bring it back,\u201d Edwards explained. \u201cA lot of long-haired babes see celebrities and their ever-changing looks and see it looks good on them, so want to get in on the action as well,\u201d Lee also added.<\/p>\n<p>Even in the Jazz Age, when flappers began buzzing their hair after seeing the look on famed ballroom dancer Irene Castle, the style was rooted in defying convention.<\/p>\n<p>Now, it\u2019s taken on a new life, with the aesthetic in line with the rise of \u201cquieter\u201d trends that have emerged after the maximalist and \u201ccore\u201d-laden zeitgeist of 2022.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re seeing a lot of French bobs, which is cheekbone-skimming and effortlessly chic as well as a more traditional jawline length with lots of layers and texture,\u201d Edwards told us.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_234493\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-234493\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption alignfull -width\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignfull-width size-full wp-image-234493\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Hailey-Bieber-Bob.jpg\" alt=\"Hailey-Bieber-Bob\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1277\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-234493\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hailey Bieber via Instagram.com\/HaileyBieber<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The bob sported by the dernier cri is \u201csuper textured and incorporates the curtain bang trend,\u201d according to Edwards, but Lee has noticed that this variation plays into the effortless luxury mode the style set is experimenting with.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople are feeling chicer and going for a timeless and classic look,\u201d Lee remarked.<\/p>\n<p>Naturally, you need only look at the influence the likes of the \u201cold money\u201d poster child, <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/sofia-richie-blonde-hair\/\">Sofia Richie Grainge<\/a>, and the grip Succession\u2019s sartorial aesthetic had on the rise of \u201cstealth wealth\u201d to discern that walking around with a trim that may look low maintenance\u2014but in actuality requires regular touch-ups and styling\u2014has become the mode of now.<\/p>\n<p>Just look at Naomi Pierce (Annabelle Dexter-Jones) and her billionaire-chic bob circa season three. <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/articles\/2023-hair-trends\/\">A bob in 2023<\/a> signals you\u2019re cool enough to not care that hair is a status symbol, but that you may not be immune to outside influences.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>So, Which Bob Cut Is The Best?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span class=\"quotation-style\" style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cEvery bob needs to be customised to the user, factoring the jawline, length of neck, face shape and personal style to come up with a unique look,\u201d Edwards advised. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAlso consider your lifestyle, for example, a low-maintenance girl probably wouldn\u2019t want curtain bangs because they always need to be styled!\u201d he notes. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of course, any professional hair stylist will always caveat this with you to ensure you&#8217;re maximising your hair\u2019s potential, not minimising it. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt pays to listen to your hairdresser about the best hair products and styling for you to get the best out of your bob so it doesn\u2019t look too flat, mumsy or mushroomy,\u201d Lee added.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But, to answer your question, the best bob cut is one that Edwards recommends \u201cplaying with the natural hair texture of your hair, lifting at the roots and creating an effortless high fashion look.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cUse a dry texture spray to lift the roots, adding grit and texture. Experiment with choppy layers throughout to add more volume and give that \u2018beach hair\u2019 look,\u201d he notes. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ultimately,\u00a0 the best bob style is one you feel most powerful in.
