Earlier this month, Serena Williams announced her retirement \u2013 or, as she puts it, \u2018evolution away\u2019 \u2013 from tennis, the sport she\u2019s played since she could walk, and that which has been part of her destiny since before she was born.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Williams, who is widely regarded as the greatest player of all time, said her last professional tournament would be the US Open that kicked off on Monday night in New York City.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Of course, a Williams match pulls a crowd regardless of occasion, but knowing that if she loses those in the stands would have been present at her final game ever means we can expect a lot of celebrity cameos to come. If we could hazard a guess, Meghan Markle, who spoke to Williams for the first episode of her podcast series, <\/span>Archetypes<\/span><\/i>, last week, will likely sit courtside at some point, hopefully with Prince Harry, who Williams says helped coach her through her difficult decision to quit. So too could long-time friends Beyonce and Jay-Z, as well as US Open regulars such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Blake Lively.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Supermodels Bella Hadid and her sister Gigi, too, have long been Williams\u2019 fans and for her opening match, Williams was joined courtside by the former, who brought her boyfriend Marc Kalman along with her for the occasion.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Never one to miss a moment for a cute \u2018fit, Hadid dressed for the occasion, wearing a double denim look made up of a strapless denim corset top and matching baggy jeans. Over the top, Hadid wore a white shirt tucked back to look cropped, which she matched with a white Balenciaga bag placed next to her on the seat, and a statement choker necklace. She wore her hair pulled back into a tight bun and added shiny lipgloss. <\/span><\/p>\n
