Mohammed Khoja is the Saudi fashion designer and self-taught artist behind Hindamme. Based in Khobar in Saudi Arabia,\u00a0Mohammed believes the pandemic is giving the planet a second chance.<\/p>\n

How are you finding the transition to a new way of working\/life?<\/em><\/strong>
\nIt was hard to adjust to the transition in the beginning and especially when you\u2019re constantly monitoring the news, it tends to take a toll on you. But I\u2019ve learned to limit my time following up the latest updates on the virus, and instead channeling that energy into being more creative. I\u2019ve also made it a point to stay in contact with people I work with and care about and just ask how they\u2019re doing. Strangely enough, although everyone is isolated, there is a heightened sense of togetherness given the fact that we are all facing this lockdown and threat together.<\/p>\n

What have been the biggest challenges?<\/em><\/strong>
\nThe biggest challenge is not being able to produce any of my work physically, since I rely on certain craftspeople to produce elements of my work. Another, and more obviously, is not being able to meet or work with people.<\/p>\n

What’s been the most pleasant surprise?<\/em><\/strong>
\nThe most pleasant surprise is having the luxury of time, it\u2019s given me the opportunity to pause and self-reflect on everything and think more deeply about what I\u2019m doing and what I hope to do in the future. I truly believe we\u2019ve been given a second chance to rethink and reinvent what we do and how we can be more conscious and impactful through our actions and contributions. Another pleasant surprise is hearing how Mother Earth is regenerating such as reading stories of reduced pollution levels and never before seen dolphins being spotted in normally crowded beaches.<\/p>\n

What are your hopes for the future?<\/em><\/strong>
\nMy hope is to definitely become more sustainable and conscious of our environment. I\u2019m looking into various ways to do this through my work with Hindamme and offer pieces that are more timeless and sustainable. I want to create as much value for my consumer as possible.<\/p>\n

What message do you have for Grazia readers?<\/em><\/strong>
\nKeep your spirits up and stay productive, we have all the time in the world to prepare for the day when we resume back to normal life. Until then, do your best to make use of your time and do all the things that you\u2019ve wanted to do but never had the time for.<\/p>\n
