It may have occurred months ago, but Will Smith and Chris Rock’s infamous Oscars ‘slap’ moment has been in the headlines again over the past few weeks, after Smith posted a six-minute YouTube video apologising to Rock and his family. Now, daughter Willow Smith has also weighed in on the incident in a new interview with\u00a0Billboard<\/em>.<\/a><\/p>\n

The interview covers the star’s upcoming album\u00a0coping mechanism<\/em>, which is being released in the next few months. But naturally, the conversation shifted toward her father’s emotional reaction, and how that impacted Willow and their family.<\/p>\n

\u201cI see my whole family as being human, and I love and accept them for all their humanness,\u201d she told the outlet. \u201cBecause of the position that we\u2019re in, our humanness sometimes isn\u2019t accepted, and we\u2019re expected to act in a way that isn\u2019t conducive to a healthy human life and isn\u2019t conducive to being honest.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also added that the incident didn’t \u201crock me as much as my own internal demons.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the time of the Oscars slap, Willow took to Twitter and posted a series of cryptic tweets. \u201cThe meaning of life is found in challenge,\u201d she\u00a0wrote<\/a> a few days afterward, followed by \u201cLife is a series of reactions.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her father initially posted an apology via social media, saying violence is “poisonous and destructive.” Jada Pinkett Smith was the first family member to address the slap, speaking on her show Red Table Talk<\/em> and saying \u201cMy deepest hope is that these two intelligent, capable men have an opportunity to heal, talk this out and reconcile. The state of the world today? We need them both, and we all actually need one another more than ever.\u201d<\/p>\n
