It\u2019s a long weekend to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II in the UK currently with celebrations for Her Majesty\u2019s Platinum Jubilee \u2013 marking 70 years on the throne \u2013 kicking off today in London at the annual Trooping the Colour event. For the occasion, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton, joined the royal family on the balcony at Buckingham Palace, along with their three children, Prince George, eight, Princess Charlotte, seven, and Prince Louis, four.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Middleton arrived with her three kids in a carriage with Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, wearing a chic white blazer dress by her favourite British designer, Alexander McQueen, with a matching two-tone fascinator by Philip Treacy. Middleton wore her hair pulled back into a bun and added a pair of sapphire drop earrings that match the stone in her famous engagement ring, which previously belonged to the late Princess Diana.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As has become an increasingly frequent choice for the duchess to promote sustainability, her outfit is one she had in her wardrobe already, previously wearing the look at the G7 summit this time last year. The group then joined Prince William, Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth II on the balcony with other working senior royal family members to watch the annual flypast.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Notably missing from the event were Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who are currently present in the UK to celebrate the Queen\u2019s Jubilee, bringing over their two children, three-year-old Archie Harrison and his little sister, Lilibet Diana, who turns one on Saturday, for the first family visit since they departed to California at the beginning of 2020.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The couple are understood to have been invited by the Queen to take in the pomp and pageantry of Trooping the Colour from the Major General\u2019s Office, which overlooks Whitehall, rather than standing on the balcony with the family as they did at the last event before the pandemic, in 2019.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ahead of the event, a Buckingham Palace spokesperson revealed the Queen chose to only include working members of the family on the balcony, excluding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and her son Prince Andrew, who was stripped of his royal duties in November 2019 over his involvement with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. \u201cAfter careful consideration, the Queen has decided that this year\u2019s traditional Trooping the Colour balcony appearance on Thursday 2nd of June will be limited to Her Majesty and those members of the Royal Family who are currently undertaking official public duties on behalf of the Queen.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
