Anna Sorokin<\/a> has captured the world’s attention, despite being behind bars for the past five years. Netflix\u2019s new series <\/span>Inventing Anna\u00a0<\/span><\/i>reopened the story of the fraudster who conned the wealthy and elite in New York during the mid-2010s while posing as Anna Delvey; a fake German heiress with ambitions to start a private arts club in New York.<\/span>\u00a0Since the Netflix series launched, Anna Sorokin has given interviews\u00a0on the Spotify podcasts\u00a0Call Her Daddy<\/i>, hosted by Alex Cooper, and\u00a0Forbidden Fruits,\u00a0<\/i>hosted by Julia Fox<\/a>. Sorokin has unveiled what Inventing Anna<\/em> got wrong about her past and has shared insight into her present situation.<\/span><\/p>\n

How Things Have Changed Since Inventing Anna<\/em><\/h3>\n

“We were always rooting for you,” Sorokin reiterated from the fan letters she’s received from her supporters\u2013a group that’s grown since the Netflix series. Although Sorokin’s legal circumstances haven’t changed much, the public perception of her has changed drastically. She reported on the\u00a0Forbidden Fruits<\/em>\u00a0podcast that she has received more fan letters and gifts from people since Inventing Anna<\/em> aired. She revealed that it’s almost never critics that reach out to her, “if somebody bothers to find me, it’s only positive stuff.”<\/p>\n

According to Sorokin, the Netflix series used a few of her qualities to caricature who she was by blowing them into larger-scale proportions. For example, Netflix portrayed her as much boujeer than she is in real life. “I love the dirty, loud downtown New York,” Sorokin shared on Forbidden Fruits<\/em>, which runs contradictory to Delvey’s proclivity for the posh Upper East Side lifestyle that was portrayed on the show.<\/p>\n

thoughts on the accent<\/h3>\n

\u201cWhen I heard Julia talking like me the first time, I\u2019m like, \u2018Oh my gosh, do I sound this insufferable?,\u2019” Sorokin shared on Call Her Daddy<\/em>. According to her, the accent on the show is not only “weird” to listen to, but it’s not an accurate depiction of how she sounds today. On the topic of her faking the accent, Sorokin said no, asking, “did anybody ever hear me speak any different? Then they should come up with the evidence, whoever accused me of that. I want to see the proof, so, let\u2019s talk.”<\/p>\n

the fall-out with Rachel<\/h3>\n

“Are you ready for the smoke?” Sorokin asked on Forbidden Fruits\u00a0<\/em>with regard to Rachel Williams. Williams is the “friend” who aided the police in her arrest after Sorokin charged William’s personal and company cards $62,000 (Dhs227,726) while staying at a five-star hotel in Marrakesh, Morroco.<\/p>\n

“If you were so f*cking gangster you should’ve picked up my jail call,” said Sorokin. She claimed that Williams dodged her calls from jail to avoid her after the gotcha-style setup.\u00a0“She’s like baiting people with her high morale and she just does not own up to her own sh*t,” Sorokin continued. She’s unsurprised Williams omitted her involvement in the arrest in her\u00a0Vanity Fair<\/em> article about their experience titled, “My Friend Anna,” adding that it “wouldn’t fit [Rachel’s] victim narrative.” Sorokin grows more tired of hearing about Williams, as Williams continues to speak about her online while defending herself and teasing an upcoming book on the experience. “[Rachel] is timing her attacks. She thinks I’m just in jail and that she can say whatever she wants,” said Anna, “it’s just annoying to me.”<\/p>\n

Has Anna Watched The Show?<\/h3>\n

In snippets, yes. Sorokin shared on Forbidden Fruits<\/em> that she hasn’t been able to watch the show in full from jail. “I’ve watched bits and pieces with a couple journalists,” said Sorokin,\u00a0but that “it was tough to watch it.” She\u00a0still isn’t completely clear on what Netflix has claimed about her life.<\/p>\n
