At his <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/articles\/fendi-beauty-fall-2022\/\">fall winter 2022 collection for Fendi<\/a>, Kim Jones showed both, though with a masterful level of restraint that places him firmly in the top tier of designers working today. As anyone who indulged in their millionth re-watch of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sex and the City<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> during lockdown can attest, Fendi was front and centre of Noughties high fashion the first time around (eagle-eyed fans noticed that Carrie Bradshaw\u2019s eggplant paillette-embellished <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/articles\/work-of-art-the-fendi-baguette\/\">Baguette bag<\/a> made a reappearance in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/articles\/and-just-like-that-satc-reboot-outfits\/\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And Just Like That&#8230;<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, despite having been stolen in a mugging during the original series). This leaves the brand perfectly poised to lead the charge on re-imagined silhouettes from that era.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For FW \u201822, that meant <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/articles\/bella-hadid-marc-kalman-milan-fashion-week-susamusa\/\">Bella Hadid opening the show<\/a> in a brilliant sheer chiffon slip dress, paired with a shrunken woolly bomber jacket and tinted oval-shaped sunglasses. Elsewhere we saw lightweight separates, corset tops with asymmetrical cuts, woollen elbow-length gloves (Covid safety meets Italian drama), and sharp tailored suiting, some cropped, some with raised lapels or a crossbody button detail. In his show notes, Jones revealed he was inspired by Delfina Delettrez, the fourth-generation Fendi heiress and the brand\u2019s artistic director of jewellery, when designing the collection. Delettrez walked into the office wearing an archive blouse from Karl Lagerfeld\u2019s 1986 \u2018Memphis\u2019 collection\u2014a piece borrowed from her mother Silvia Venturini Fendi\u2019s personal collection. \u201cI took it off her back and put it on the research rail,\u201d Jones explained.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_210007\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-210007\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-210007\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/GettyImages-1372346970.jpg\" alt=\"Fendi Fall Winter 2022\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1536\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-210007\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">MILAN, ITALY &#8211; FEBRUARY 23: Bella Hadid walks the runway at the Fendi fashion show during the Milan Fashion Week Fall\/Winter 2022\/2023 on February 23, 2022 in Milan, Italy. (Photo by Daniele Venturelli\/WireImage)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There was another archive reference too\u2014namely to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vogue.com\/fashion-shows\/spring-2000-ready-to-wear\/fendi\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lagerfeld\u2019s spring 2000<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Fendi show, with its chiffon bralettes layered under matching blouses, below-the-knee pencil skirts, and soft palette of pistachios, blush pinks, and chocolate browns. \u201cThese are collections which, although they come from the past, feel very now,\u201d said Jones. \u201cWhat emerges is a diametric exploration of strength and softness \u2014 a runway of powerful women in beautiful clothes.\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Those much-revered Fendi women brought their own impeccable sense of newness to FW \u201822 too. Delettrez\u2019s jewellery included large architectural earcuffs in the shape of the Fendi \u2018F\u2019, dramatic drop earrings, and tennis bracelets inset with baguette crystals with interlocking \u2018F\u2019 motifs. Her mother Silvia, the house\u2019s artistic director of accessories and menswear collections, paid homage to the 25th anniversary of the Baguette bag with new interactions in cashmere, shearling-lined leather, and intarsia mink. Tiny renderings of the Baguette were turned into delicate charms that hung from corset shirting and tailored blazers.
