Even now the question remains on how Carrie Bradshaw, a columnist living in a one bedroom apartment in the heart of Manhattan and who would go out drinking cosmos every night, could also afford the designer wardrobe of our dreams. The illusion was well and truly shattered this week when it was revealed that one particular item in Sex and the City<\/em> was actually a fake. At least in real life anyways.<\/p>\n

Speaking in a new interview where she broke down 17 looks<\/a> from the hit television series, she admitted that the blue Herm\u00e8s birkin bag<\/a> that she carried in a 2002 episode was actually, gasp<\/em>, a knock-off.<\/p>\n

Paired with a tiny green bandeau dress and red pumps, the main purpose of the bag was to hide Sarah Jessica Parker<\/a>‘s in-real-life baby bump. \u201cThat is not a real Herm\u00e8s bag, just so you know,\u201d the 56-year-old recalled. \u201cPat [Field, the series\u2019 costume designer], like, had a person. And she was like, \u2018Do you want one? I could get you one.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat bag had one job to do, and did it very poorly,\u201d she joked. \u201cMaybe if it was a real Herm\u00e8s bag, it would\u2019ve done a better job!\u201d<\/p>\n

If you’re wondering what the big deal is, Samantha (played by Kim Cattrall) surmised it in the series so perfectly. “It\u2019s not so much the style, it\u2019s what carrying it means,\u201d Samantha tells Carrie. \u201cWhen I\u2019m tooling around town with that bag, I\u2019ll know I\u2019ve made it.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for the little green dress? \u201cThe dress is real, and it\u2019s Juicy Couture,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Parker’s appearance comes off the back of the season one finale of the Sex and the City reboot,\u00a0And Just Like That.\u00a0<\/em>The series received a mix reception – it was criticised for missing the mark on so many topics<\/a> and writing out Kim Cattrall’s character so lazily – and has not been renewed for a second season…
