The 2022 Academy Awards – better known as the Oscars<\/a> – will take place on March 27 from the historic Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Before we can celebrate all the glitz and glamour from the annual affair, the Oscar Nominations have been released and boy, there is a lot to process here.<\/p>\n

Netflix film\u00a0The Power of the Dog,\u00a0<\/em>leads this year’s nominations with 12 nods. The reimagined Western is the brainchild of Jane Campion who made history today as the first woman to earn two Best Director nominations. She was also nominated in the Best Adapted Screenplay category in 2022.\u00a0Dune <\/em>\u00a0closely follows with 10 nominations however surprisingly, the film director Denis Villeneuve failed to make the list.<\/p>\n

Speaking of snubs, Lady Gaga’s critically-acclaimed performance in\u00a0House of Gucci\u00a0<\/em>(which even earned the tick of approval from Tom Ford)<\/a> was overlooked by the Academy for a nomination. Actress Caitr\u00edona Balfe was also snubbed for her appearance in\u00a0Belfast.\u00a0<\/em>For Beyonc\u00e9 and Kristen Stewart<\/a> however, they both earned their very first Oscars nomination.<\/p>\n

Stewart who portrayed Princess Diana in the newly-release biopic\u00a0Spencer<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>will be vying for the gold statuette in the Best Lead Actress category against Nicole Kidman, Jessica Chastain, Olivia Colman and Pen\u00e9lope Cruz. Best Lead Actor is between Javier Bardem, Benedict Cumberbatch, Andrew Garfield, Will Smith and Denzel Washington.<\/p>\n
