The news inevitably <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/articles\/lucy-boynton-style-erdem-sag-awards-2019\/\">lingered over Moralioglu&#8217;s runway show<\/a>. For the first time this season, Brits were able to consume a fashion collection while actively imagining a future in which they&#8217;ll be able to wear the clothes. This, in itself, added a certain power to the Erdem F21 offering.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_186792\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-186792\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignfull -width\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-186792\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Erdem-Fall-Winter-2021.gif\" alt=\"Erdem Fall Winter 2021\" width=\"1200\" height=\"676\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-186792\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image: Erdem<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The collection was inspired by the relationship between legendary ballet dancers Rudolf Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn. Fonteyn was nearing retirement when she reluctantly agreed to partner with then-upstart Nureyev, the pair going on to become one of the most internationally-renowned ballet partnerships in history. Ballet itself is a long-time source of inspiration for Moriloglu, who costumed a ballet for the Royal Opera House in London in 2018, and who hired Edward Watson, a principal dancer in the Royal Ballet, to choreograph the runway for this collection.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_186795\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-186795\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-186795 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/00001-ERDEM-FALL-21-RTW.jpg\" alt=\"Erdem Fall Winter 2021\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1536\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-186795\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image: Erdem<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Four ballerinas appeared alongside models on the runway, too\u2014Christina Arestis, Elizabeth McGorian, Marguerite Porter, and Zenaida Yanowsky\u2014with McGorian opening proceedings in a scene-setting trench coat\/feather hybrid. The clothes themselves were often reminiscent of ballerinas, with looks styled to blend on-and off-stage attire. Extravagant embellished gowns were worn with grey ribbed leggings.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The collection perfectly embodied the transitory, contradictory state of affairs the world currently finds itself in\u2014half-ready to return to life\u2019s great stage, yet still confined to the four walls of our homes.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Sometimes Erdem took this idea quite literally\u2014satin piped-hem pyjamas worn with lace-up platforms or a voluminous satin dress with large chrysanthemum motifs was paired with a woollen beanie and pointe shoes. But the true pleasure of an Erdem show is always the theatricality\u2014masterfully crafted gowns with careful, often breathtaking attention to detail, the kind of dresses that make you long for theatre and film and retail stores and red carpets and parties all at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>Erdem makes the hybrid look good\u2014but for most of us, the thought of a life where we can shed our ribbed leggings in favour of pearl-adorned party dresses is the guiding motivation driving us toward June 21 (well, the UK-based dwellers among us at least).
