They say that the Golden Globes are usually the rowdiest bunch of the awards season<\/a> but following a lack lustre ceremony via Zoom in 2021 and controversy over the governing board, Hollywood Foreign Press Association in recent years, the 79th Golden Globe Awards will be a significantly pared-down affair.<\/p>\n

The HFPA has blamed a COVID-19 outbreak for the “private event” – there will be no red carpet, broadcast or stars – while the real reason <\/em>stems from a slew of high-profile boycotting<\/a> after the organisation was questioned over diversity and ethical standards (or lack thereof). For instance, Andra Day became only the second Black woman to win Best Actress in a Drama Film<\/a> in 2021 behind Whoopi Goldberg in 1987.<\/p>\n

In March last year, more than 100 publicity agencies announced they would withdraw cooperation<\/a> with the Globes, streaming giants Netflix and Amazon Studios<\/a> threatened to cut ties with the HFPA and NBC revealed<\/a> it would not air the ceremony. So where does that leave the 2022 event?<\/p>\n

If you’re still intrigued to see all the winners and snubs from the ceremony, you can follow along with the event from the Golden Globes website<\/a> and social media platforms. Information will trickle in from 6pm PT (or 1pm AEDT) on January 9.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis year\u2019s event is going to be a private event and will not be livestreamed,\u201d an HFPA spokesperson told Deadline<\/em><\/a> last Thursday. \u201cWe will be providing real-time updates on winners on the Golden Globes website and our social media.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0Variety<\/em><\/a>, the Globes’ talent bookers failed to recruit any A-list celebrities to prsent in the ceremony. It is not known if any celebrities will actually attend, let alone post about it on social media.<\/p>\n

Other stars like Scarlett Johansson and Tom Cruise have spoken out against the HFPA in the past.<\/p>\n
