UAE’s 50th National Day<\/a> will be a massive celebration, and adidas Originals wants to add to the hype. The brand teamed up with multi-disciplinary Emirati artist, Maisoon Al Saleh, to develop an off-market, one-of-a-kind Stan Smith shoe. The unofficial collaboration is in concert with the UAE’s 50th National Day and the 50th anniversary of the Stan Smith shoe. The exclusive sneaker will be gifted by adidas Originals to 50 of the UAE’s creatives, changemakers, and entrepreneurs as a gesture celebrating the endless potential of the city; none of the sneakers will be sold on the retail market.<\/p>\n

Adidas Originals brought on Maisoon Al Saleh to skillfully combine both anniversary celebrations with one of her custom-designed graphics. The artist is known for driving discourse on the importance of Emirati history and developed a graphic depicting Dubai<\/a>‘s landscape in 1971 vs 2021. For Saleh, it “represent[s] old and new Dubai with an x-rayed mirror effect” and that it is “a piece of history on a pair of shoes.” This image was then transposed over the signature Stan Smith stamp on the sneaker’s tongue for optimal display.<\/p>\n

The left sneaker depicts the Deira clock tower surrounded by an uninhabited landmass in 1971. In contrast, the right sneaker showcases the fruitful and buzzing city Dubai<\/a> is today, with a gleaming skyline filled with its most prominent buildings, like the Emirates Towers. The sneakers are a heartfelt commemoration celebrating how much Dubai has achieved over the past 50 years, made by none other than one of the region’s rising talents<\/a>.<\/p>\n
