If you thought Jake Gyllenhaal<\/a> had it bad following the release of Taylor Swift’s updated record<\/a>,\u00a0Red,\u00a0<\/em>spare a thought for John Mayer. The artist dated Swift in 2009 and was the subject of the scathing track, “Dear John”. \u201cDear John, I see it all, now it was wrong\/Don\u2019t you think 19 is too young\/to be played by your dark twisted games, when I loved you so?\u201d Swift sings in the track.<\/p>\n

Now that the “All Too Well” artist has turned her attention on old music, the singer’s army of fans (colloquially known as ‘Swifties) are revisiting past scandals too. Mayer has since responded to a new onslaught of hate which includes some pretty nasty death threats.<\/p>\n

On Twitter, screenshots of Instagram DMs have been shared of conversations Mayer has had with his haters. In one, a Swiftie wrote: “answer me you b**ch”. To which Mayer replied:<\/p>\n

“Hi Alondra, it’s John. I’ve been getting so many messages like these the past couple of days, I decided to choose your message at random to reply to. You can feel free to screen shot, share in any way you like if you want. I’m not upset, I just tend to have a curious mind and feel compelled to ask. Do you really hope that I die?”<\/p>\n

Interestingly enough, the user responded: “OMG WHAT i don’t want you to DIE.”<\/p>\n
