The brand launched 74 concept stores worldwide yesterday to kick off its Hacker Project series. In each of these stores, the French Fashion house impersonates <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/me\/articles\/gucci-2022-ready-to-wear-goes-hollywood\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gucci&#8217;s distinctive assets<\/a>, much like a hacker stealing someone&#8217;s identity. These pop-ups are a cognitively dissonant minefield, between the reimagined Gucci print curtains (think, interlocking Bs instead of Gs) and &#8220;GUCCI&#8221; tagged on the store windows. As confusing as it may be at first glance, the concept stores show there&#8217;s one thing we can count on from Balenciaga, no matter what: to expect the unexpected.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_14645\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14645\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-14645 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/me\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2021\/11\/BALENCIAGA-SPRING-22_HACKER-GRAFFITI-LARGE-TOTE-BAG-2-e1637033983844.png?w=1024\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"622\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-14645\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image courtesy of Balenciaga<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Rest assured, this brand crossover wasn&#8217;t a case of mistaken identity. The clothing in the stores\u00a0<\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">is<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Balenciaga&#8217;s, and the brand debuted much of it during their Spring 22 runway show. The apparel created specifically for The Hacker Project includes cross-branded ready-to-wear accessories, bags, and cases. Balenciaga told\u00a0<\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Grazia\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">these items would &#8220;reinterpret Gucci codes and in so doing, question notions of branding, appropriating, and counterfeiting.&#8221; The stores are a way to immerse fans of the brand into The Hacker Project&#8217;s thesis and encourage them to engage with these ideas.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Cultivating chaotic energy is something that a disruptive brand is inherently good at, and Balenciaga nailed it with this concept.
