Wearing a shouty bright print seemed almost garish in such a sophisticated environment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"pullquote-container\"><span class=\"pullquote-processed pullquote-quote\">I might not have made it to Mykonos this year but immediately felt transported to the Greek isles with potted olive plants echoing the courtyards<\/span>There\u2019s an automatic hand sanitiser at the entrance \u2013 and you can see the fully masked team in the bright open kitchen plating up \u2013 as your temperature is taken before you get escorted to your table.\u00a0<span class=\"pullquote pullquote-processed\">I might not have made it to Mykonos this year but immediately felt transported to the Greek isles with potted olive plants echoing the courtyards<\/span> \u2013 or avli \u2013 that it\u2019s named after. Restauranteur Natasha Sideris\u2019s eatery has kept it\u2019s seating the same as it always was \u2013 but they\u2019ve placed discrete cards on tables indicating some are not to be used due to social distancing.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignfull-width wp-image-1327 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/me\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2021\/04\/AVLI-105.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><span class=\"credit-style\">AVLI BY TASHAS<\/span><\/p>\n<p>We opted for a corner table so we could get maximum people watching with minimal contact and were soon happily ensconced, tangy Cycladic Punch mocktail in hand, perusing the menu. Our server expertly guided us through all the plates, explaining that portions made for sharing.<\/p>\n<p>We found this to be the case even when it came to the \u2018mezedes\u2019 \u2013 small dishes that allegedly \u201cdon\u2019t fill you up\u201d but turned out to be far more generous than we anticipated.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignfull-width wp-image-1328 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/me\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2021\/04\/AVLI-157.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"493\" height=\"740\" \/><span class=\"credit-style\">FETA SAGANAKI<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Everything we sampled from the extensive menu; there\u2019s plenty to pick from whether you are vegetarian, pescatarian or a confirmed carnivore, was perfectly executed and delight for all the senses. Soon our table was full of our selection of starters.<\/p>\n<p>One of their signatures is the feta saganaki \u2013 rich, salty feta teamed with crisp phyllo pastry and thyme-topped sticky honey. The perfect combination of flavours.\u00a0 The crisp calamari came with creamy black aioli \u2013 squid ink pumping up the umami tones.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignfull-width wp-image-1329 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/me\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2021\/04\/avlimarch-057.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"528\" height=\"740\" \/><span class=\"credit-style\">LAMB YOUVETSI<\/span><\/p>\n<p>We didn\u2019t think we could come to a Greek spot without trying lamb meatballs, while we mopped up the tomato butter and herby yogurt sauce with the freshly baked pita bread that kept us company from the beginning. And the moreish oregano fries that we couldn\u2019t resist.<\/p>\n<p>We were tempted by a fig cheesecake and Amira\u2019s sticky orange cake with toffee caramel but couldn\u2019t even manage the enticing rose-tinged watermelon sorbet at the end. The food, atmosphere, lighting and even the music have been so well thought out to make it a really complete \u2013 albeit pricey \u2013 dining experience. It would be the ideal spot for a family meal out as you\u2019d get to fully appreciate the breadth of the menu.
