{"id":11731,"date":"2021-09-23T20:12:40","date_gmt":"2021-09-23T10:12:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/?post_type=articles&#038;p=201546"},"modified":"2021-09-23T12:05:53","modified_gmt":"2021-09-23T12:05:53","slug":"fendi-spring-summer-22","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/me\/articles\/fendi-spring-summer-22\/","title":{"rendered":"Kim Jones Kicks Off Milan Fashion Week With His Sophomore RTW Outing For Fendi"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"width: 1920px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-11731-1\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" preload=\"metadata\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"video\/mp4\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/me\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2021\/09\/FENDI_FW21_15sec_FromGrade_1920x1080_with_logo.mp4?_=1\" \/><\/video><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There really wasn\u2019t a better way to mark the first in-person Milan Fashion Week since the pandemic began than with <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/me\/articles\/fashion-kim-jones-fendi-autumn-winter-collection\/\">Kim Jones<\/a> presenting his first in-person outing for <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/search\/?search=fendi\">Fendi<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/articles\/fendi-fall-winter-2021\/\">Jones\u2019 appointment<\/a> to the storied Italian house\u2014where he serves as creative director for womenswear\u2014took place in September 2020, meaning the fashion world hadn\u2019t yet had an opportunity to celebrate his tenure in person. Yesterday afternoon they finally had their chance, with Jones presenting his spring summer \u201822 offering in Milan to a star-studded front row that included <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/search\/?search=gossip+girl\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gossip Girl<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> star Jordan Alexander, Maddie Ziegler, and filmmaker Luca Guadagnino.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jones\u2019 role has been to envision a forward-thinking vision for <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/me\/articles\/fashion-kim-jones-fendi-autumn-winter-collection\/\">Fendi<\/a> following the 2019 passing of its long-term creative director Karl Lagerfeld. On that front he has been delivering in droves, presenting clothes that retains the core principles of the brand\u2019s near 100-year history while still keeping one eye fixed firmly on the wardrobe needs of modern women. For spring summer \u201822, for example, the show opened with a slew of thoroughly wearable everyday looks: a boxy white wrap coat, a tailored vest suit, the ubiquitous Fendi fur coat. But as the collection progressed, the chic Fendi daywear began to loosen up and give way to tasseled metallic party dresses, slouchy pink satin suits worn with flirty bralettes, and sleeveless silk gowns delicately embossed with the \u2018F\u2019 logo.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_201549\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-201549\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-201549\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/GettyImages-1341859829.jpg\" alt=\"Fendi Spring Summer 2022\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1536\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-201549\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">MILAN, ITALY &#8211; SEPTEMBER 22: A model walks the runway at the Fendi fashion show during the Milan Fashion Week &#8211; Spring \/ Summer 2022 on September 22, 2021 in Milan, Italy. Puerto Rican-born Lopez was at the epicentre of the New York fashion scene in the \u201860s and \u201870s, publishing his work in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The New York Times, Vogue<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Interview<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and developing a reputation as the uneartherer of supermodels. Known as \u201cAntonio\u2019s girls\u201d, Lopez is credited with discovering Jerry Hall, Jessica Lange, Pat Cleveland, Grace Jones, and Tina Chow. Having tragically died of AIDS-related illness aged 44, Lopez\u2019s work often explored queer identity, and the intersection of that identity with gender and race. His work\u2014which Jones dyed onto fur coats, printed on silk gowns and mini dresses, and embossed on leather boots and shrunken jackets\u2014remains as relevant today as it ever has been.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u201cWhile I\u2019ve been looking at Karl\u2019s legacy at the house, I\u2019ve also been looking around him, at his contemporaries \u2013 at who he was interested in,\u201d Jones explained after the show. \u201cLopez was a friend of Karl\u2019s, and has always been someone who inspired me. He was forward thinking; inclusive; looked up to by everyone from Andy Warhol to Steven Meisel and David Hockney.
